Help repairing airplanes?

So I introduced my friend to war thunder and we took our Gladiators for a Realistic Battle :) He managed to crash on take off and we had a good laugh about it :D

But then I flew by him while he was repairing and I got an option to help him, someting like "Press 'U' to help repair plane". I was curious about it and went for another pass and clicked the button.
I got a timer that flashed "repair time remaining: 00.49" and his repair timer vanished :PP
So now he couldn't repair. I landed and tried to knock him over but I passed right through(as per usual on airstrip). It ended up that I shot him and crashed so we could join another battle.

So my question here is: What was that repair thingy? What's it meant for? How do I use it? xD

Never heard of it. That's a new one on me.

its something introduced 2 patches back.It's a "Buddy' system of repairing 2x as fast as one would if alone.Originally,You just had to fly very close to them,and it would insta-repair.Now You must stay close,land if possible,and press U. This will cause their timer to wind down very fast,and the repairs to be done quickly!

Thanks Rubble :D I had no idea that existed, didn't work this time though, I gotta try it out again ;) I guess my friend could have J'd out but didn't think about it at the time :P

Its the same in tanks
when your squad mate is repairing you can help by standing close and press U (default repair key)
you will then help your team mate repair making the timer go a lot faster
example: when the timer gives you 1 min repair time and your team mate is going to help,
the moment he press the U key your timer will go to lets say 20 sec left instead of 1 min
wich in battle can make the difference between live or death

That sounds awesome! Those repair times in tanks are aweful :S

Never play alone :) play in a squad of AOD members :D
