Remote Desktop

Does someone have a good guide to setting up a remove desktop between two pc's ?

Caveats:
- i'm on the same network
- each computer cannot see each other (They login to the wifi through a web gui)
- I've tried to connect to things via their IP before and it couldn't find the folder
- can only have 5 devices on the network at one time

would like to eventually make this so that my desktop that i'm slowly turning into a media center can host the videos and such for the network [this network problem is only temporary for another few months]

For me, I just use teamviewer http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

It works well, and supports multiple operating systems, as well as mobile devices. While not as non cloud reliant as the windows remote desktop, it is far easier to set up, and get unattended access going.

I second teamviewer. Just as efficient as RD and way easier to accomplish.

You can't ping the other system? Use something like UltraVNC if you can.

TeamViewer is incredibly easy to use, and totally free for non-commercial/enterprise use.

The program is so fast and effective that I use it to keep an eye on the joining queue for my next DotA2 game... from my cell phone, on WiFi, while I'm outside having a cigarette between games :18: I was also using it last week to remote in to my home PC from work, and babysit my urban planning atrocity in Cities: Skylines, while I left the game running all day to farm cim-money lol
