Hey guys I put the inactivity timer back on. It is set for 15 minutes right now but I could set it higher if it becomes an issue. I don't want you guys to think you are being kicked from vent for no reason.

Appreciate the heads up!
thanks for the heads up. I do have one concern though, how will this effect games like WOT where people go AFK and are still in game, yet they get kicked from vent because of inactivity, when I or someone else checks who is on and sees member X in game but not in vent? we have had people ignore are PMs before about being on in vent, so how should we get around this?
Thanks for the heads up Gods.
i'm pretty sure it isn't a not speaking thing Samiam i think its a lack of keyboard and mouse input thing.
So this inactivity timer kicks afk people off vent after 15 mins? And what exactly constitutes being afk, not pressing ptt or having no mouse/keyboard inputs? I'll forward this to the FF div.
It's a good thing indeed, but I think 15 minutes might be a wee bit short... Like Samiam said, we'll now get a lot more occurences of people not being on vent while they are still in the game... Either way, I hope this will do wonders for vent stability =)
Hey guys. Keep in mind this is a fluid thing and can be adjusted. 15 minutes is not set in stone but it's a good jumping off point. In fact as we speak I am not talking on vent and just going about checking forums to see if it kicks me for in activity. I have been sliding the mouse to see who is on vent to simulate "activity".
As for WoT's you'll have to be guided by your CO's and XO's with the this inactivity timer in play. If I were running things I'd be sure to put up a post in my Forums about it and possibly bring it up at the next meeting.
The guild concern is that we have a 350 man vent server that doesn't go past 200 slots on typical days. That is 150 wasted slots that cost us an extra $150 plus dollars. Yesterday 25 slots were taken up by quiet room people not counting the 10-15 that were sitting idle in division rooms. This timer will get rid of this.
The Jedi Knight division also have members that will go afk to go to things like diner,
but they stay ingame.
So we have to start telling them to get out of the game to prevent trouble.
I don't know what was going on but last night but i kept disconnecting and reconnecting, interne twas vine it was just vent, and i havent had a problem like this in 10 years i've used vent.
I've set the inactivity log to 1 hour.
"Inactivity" meaning not talking on Vent? Or literally AFK?
Here is how Ventilo describes inactive.
User inactivity
Timeout (minutes)
This option specifies the number of minutes that a user is allowed to be away from his computer (no mouse, keyboard or game controller activity) before the server will perform the specified action.
A value of 0 disables this feature.
If you are looking at websites and such then you will not get hit with the inactivity timer. That means you won't get kicked off while playing a game.
