    Default GFX Card info

Guys I think my 2gb GTX670 is on its last legs, I need help on options/upgrade for a new card.
The latest and greatest is out of the equation. Ideas for a sensible upgrade that wont break
    the bank?

    cheers!

Gtx 970 or maybe even the regular 980 if you got enough.

Well, latest and greatest would be either the GTX 980Ti/980 or R9 390X, BUT since thats out of the equation, (as it is for most), A few good middle end cards are 970(As Rainbow Dash pointed out), The new R9 390 and If the $300 range is still to high the GTX 960's are great Graphics cards, I own one myself(I enable VSync and lock the FPS to the refresh rate of my Monitor, 60Hz, It easily maintains a consistent 60FPS on High no AA w/ HB Ambient Occlusion[HBAO]; Medium Settings w/ x2 AA achieves consistent 60FPS as well):

A few recommendations for the R9 390's and GTX 960's:

    R9 390's $329.99 - $359.99

    1) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127874 [$329.99] MSI R9 390 w/ 8GB GDDR5 [512-Bit wide Memory address bus] | GPU Clock: 1.06GHz(1060MHz) & Memory Clock: 6.1GHz(6100MHz) **Probably the best deal; Best GPU/Mem Clock speeds and Its one of the 2-3 Cheapest @ $329; NOTE: The PowerColor PCS+ has a MUCH better cooling solution w/ x3 90mm Fans(I believe there 90mm, if not 80mm) Triple-slot(2 Slots are taken up just by the Heatsink, fans and Shroud, the third Id assume is the PCB)| Thats why its more expensive

    2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131672 [$359.99] PowerColor PCS+ R9 390 w/ 8GB GDDR5 [512-Bit Memory Bus] | GPU Clock: 1.01GHz(1010MHz) & Memory Clock: 6GHz(6000MHz)

** Note, just in-case you dont already know: The Size of the Memory Address Bus and the Amount of Memory DO NO necessarily determine if one card is higher-performing/better than another card; There are ALOT more variables that determine overall performance than the size of the Address Bus and Memory Size; Architectural & In the way the GPU manages its resources. IE: The GTX 970's are MOST LIKELY going to be better cards than the 390's, due to the fact there GPU is made on one of the latest architecture's from Nvidia("Maxwell"), where as AMD's cards are essentially rebrands of the 200-Series "Hawaii" GPU Architecture but w/ Improvements and small Tweaks

    GTX 970's $329.99 - $369.99

    1) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121899 [$329.99] ASUS Strix GTX 970 w/ 4GB GDDR5 [256-Bit wide Memory Address Bus] | GPU Clock: 1.25GHz(1253MHz*Boost Clock | Stock is 1114MHz) & Memory Clock: 7.01GHz(7100MHz) * Again, probably the best deal, The highest GPU and Memory Clocks in its $329.99 Price Range, Its got "Good" cooling compared to some of the more expensive models($349.99-$369.99), its nothing to be excited about but it does fine keeping it cool- Its heatsink only makes direct contact w/ the GPU where as alot of the others make Contact w/ the GPU -AND- VRM's(Voltage Regulator Modules)

    2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814487088 [$349.99] EVGA SSC ACX2.0 GTX 970 w/ 4GB GDDR5[256-Bit Mem Address Bus] | GPU Clock: 1.34GHz(1342MHz*Boost clock | Stock 1190MHz) & Memory Clock: 7.01GHz(7100MHz)

    * Check out the GTX 960's from EVGA and ASUS if the price point of the cards above ^^ is still to high; Check out the EVGA GTX 960 SSC ACX2.0 2GB/4GB From EVGA, I own the 2GB Version and its great at about $209.99.

I know, did you read the rest? Ill post another w/ some more budget oriented cards if you want? I wasnt sure what your EXACT budget is, can you be specific as in the MAX amount your willing to spend? Im very happy to help, just let me know about what kind of budget your on and what you want out of the card :)

The thing is that a GTX 670 performs close to a GTX 760, and overclocked, will perform similarly GTX 770 at reference speeds.

The only worthwhile upgrade from a 670, while on a budget, will be a used GTX780 ($200-250 range), or a GTX 970

If you have enough power left over, you can get a second GTX 670, which will cost around $100-125.

    Thats a possible upgrade route; But Maxwell's architectural advantages preceed those of the 670 especially, and if referring to the 970 will be ahead(*maybe* toe-to-toe); The 970 really is the sweet spot, if you can sell your 670, get some extra cash, it'd be worth your money; But can you still give me a better Idea of what your price point is? I always recommend going with the latest Generation of cards when upgrading, I would only recommend SLI/CFX if it was only 1-2 Generations old, IE: R9 200/7000-series OR 700-series;

The 780 Is a great card, even now, but I wouldn't SLI your 670. Just my thoughts.

I run a gigabyte gtx g1 970 and get 60-80 fps with high settings in planet side 200+ players. But I run a OC on my i5 4670k of 4.6ghz and run 1500mhz on my gpu core. I push my parts to the limit which is risky but at same time worthy to me since can compete with stock 980s in performance.

Another vote here for the GTX 970 although you're looking at around £300 in the UK.

It would be more helpful if you provided us with a budget so at least we could gauge the scope of what you could get, maybe a few second hand suggestions too...

Ive been trying to get him to provide us with some sort of budget. Cant really help all that much without knowing how much he can spend.
