I'd certainly put a little money into getting a SSD, nothing large, just to have your OS run off of, while keeping the 1TB for storage. Looks like a solid build even if the CPU is a significant step up from the range of that graphics card.

Because the computer built from a vendor they probably used an oem version of windows. If you replace the motherboard then the windows serial will not work and you will have to buy another copy of windows.

Can you be more specific as to why you want to upgrade so we can suggest what is worthwhile for you.

I use OEM windows os and only have driver issues on install. Serial key doesn't determine hardware.

What version of windows are you using? Unless something changed, oem Windows 7 for me would never be able to authenticate after a motherboard change. I could change all other parts hdd, gpu, cpu ect. without issue but the motherboard change would invalidate the serial key. Sure you could run windows for 30 days without authenticating but after that you receive annoying messages and not be able to run windows update.

Use the phone authentication. That's what I do. It's Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit.

Yes, but why. We need information of why you want to upgrade so we can make suggestions.

well in that case... Get an FX 8320 and overclock it... a gtx 760 or higher. SSD makes load times a lot faster so a samsung 840/850 evo. The ram will make the least difference. 8GB is plenty for a gaming machine.

This, although I would get a 256 gb ssd and partition it three ways. Make one partition for the os, completely dedicated, one partition for games, and then make a 40gb partition for ssd cache for the hdd. If you want, you can combine the games and os partition. The 40gb ssd cache partition will greatly help with that hard drive.
