    Default R9 280X issues

    Hello all,

Last weekend I had issues with my card. I can normally run WT max graphics at 60fps. Logged in last Friday to find it running 8fps. Put in my old 650Ti, 40fps.

I sent the card back to where I bought it on Monday. They bench tested it and it tested perfect 59.98fps DX11. They also did a memory bench test and again, tested OK.

Here is a link to the list of my rig:
    http://www.clanaod.net/forums/showth...ht=#post874089

Any ideas as to what's causing this 8fps?

I've only received the card back today, and I'm at work. I will put it back in when I get home and post with a screenshot if it does the same thing. Software issue or PSU issue? My wife seems to think it may be a software issue. Just hoping someone else has had this issue.

I dont know for sure, but the 3 possibilities I can think of are:

Old drivers - check for updates
    Heat soak
Power consumption - check your system against this http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

    Heat Sink* (i'm guessing)

Open up a temps/clocks monitor and watch them as you game. It could also be ULPS but I'll check to seex if the 280x actually has that.

1st thing I would try is to reinstall your drivers. Uninstall them with the included un-installer.

Then grab CCleaner and Driver Sweeper. Run CCleaners Registry cleaner. Run driver sweeper and uninstall any nvidia or ATI (maybe AMD) drivers.

    Re-Install latest non beta Drivers.

If that doesn't work it's properly an issue with ULPS but that's more complicated.

    +1 British Bod.

Did you Uninstall the nvidia drivers?

Also when you are in the game try resetting everything to defaults then exit and reopen the game and put your settings back in.

I ran out of time last night to have a play.

Originally yes, non beta drivers and no nvidia drivers were installed at the time. Resetting graphics didn't work. Turned off computer, unmounted card, remounted, turned computer on, still had 8fps.

Hopefully I will have time, and energy, this weekend. I have already uninstalled the AMD drivers and software. Just a matter of remounting the card and reinstalling the drivers and software....will see what happens!

Download and install gpuz. Open gpuz and check that all settings seem normal. go to sensors tab. run a game for about a minute then at tab out of the game and look at all the sensor data. While under load is the carx running at the max frequency? What was the highest temperature? take Screenshots if you can.

If the card is underclocking and or undervolting, head over here:
    http://www.overclock.net/t/1088266/u...enable-disable

ULPS is Ultra Low Power State, it's a power saving setting that helps reduce power consumption. But it's been known to go screwy.

You might get graphs that look like this:

Or just a graph/numbers that are far lower than they should be. But double check everything before ULPS.

I saw the following on one of the War Thunder forum threads:

"Something else, they just put in an update that uses DirectX12 I think. I've heard people complaining but they were using older rigs....not even bad ones but just a bit older. Not sure though because I haven't really looked into it."

I also saw some posts about frame rate drop after the last (or one of the last) updates... Might be a coincidence or might be related with your problem.

If it's a software problem, then 2 possibilities I think.

First one is that an WT update is conflicting with the driver or at least with graphics card related software.

Second one is that you installed something on your PC that is conflicting... Did you install something particular since the last time the game ran good & the first sign of problems?

PS: Gaijin did alter something in one of the latest updates about rendering stuff, dunno if it can be the cause, but just a heads up from on WT forum:

    "Question OP:
    Posted 01 April 2015 - 06:15 PM

From some update, all the renders except OpenGl and "auto" was removed from my launcher options. I have a gpu R9 280X so my pc can support thet render, and yes, i played with that render my whole life. I don't care about the other renders, i just want to keep playing in Directx11.

thank you for your concern, however, the removal of all other render options was intentional. if you notice any FPS issues since the change however, please feel free to submit a report with all required information so we may review that."
