and getting older myself I must say they don`t sound that terrible .

ROTFL I understand there's a regional influence thing going on and accept your right to enjoy whatever music you want. As a musician (35 year guitar player), while I may not enjoy, I do respect all forms of music. And will even admit, under an extended period of torture, that I do in fact like a few ABBA songs. I need to go wash my mouth out with soap and listen to several hours of Led Zeppelin to get over the trauma of admitting that in public. LOL

Now I will admit I have been talked into going to a show/ play/ opera once or twice... however my loud snoring seemed to embarrass my wife... go figure! Some of the best naps I have ever taken!

Forced is a strong word, gently coerced sounds better. Spending time with the wife isn't forced but it may not be doing something I enjoy, then again I make her go to car shows with me sometimes.
