What 8 should have been, much like 7 with added functionality. I've been using it for the past 2 months or so. Everything has been running flawlessly (except for some proprietary software not released for some things ie: logitech gaming software that I am currently unable to install due to the OS) Other than that nvidia drivers and most everything else has no issue running just like with 7. There are a few UI elements to get used to such as navigation and how to manage windows under certain circumstances but it's not a complete system shock as with win 8. With the full release next month and not having to do a complete system wipe is nice. (you keep your current version of windows as well home, pro, ultimate etc.) so it basically updates your os while keeping everything how it currently is. I think an ISO will be available for flash drive / disk boot. Your product key gets changed as well without deactivating your current OS's.

You have a year to upgrade for free if you have 7 or 8.1 so if you want to give it some time to mature feel free it'll still be here. With DX12 coming with the release, I have big expectations for new game titles in the coming future. That alone is enough to upgrade.

Any questions you may on stuff i haven't covered feel free to ask.

Yeah everyone that has updated through windows update in the past few weeks has probably gotten the early sign up message. It drops end of next month so that message will be up my guess probably for the first year.

10 has definitely excelled in a lot of the shortcomings of 8 and later 8.1. I've had it on my main desktop since around January and I have been very happy with it. I put it on my Surface Pro 3 when i got it a couple months ago, and despite some surface specific issues, it has smoothed out nicely.

The tablet swap on the Surface is awesome, to have it detect that I have no mouse and keyboard and automatically go to a more touch friendly environment. This forces the start menu as a full-screen menu much like 8, and the swapping between programs is a breeze with all the relavent buttons down by start (much like the recent programs button on Android OS).

On my desktop, i've had very little issues and I've survived through multiple build updates. A few issues have mostly been related to my gaming hardware. I have to reload Razer Synapse after a build update sometimes. And the technical preview is not letting you choose what updates you install via Windows Update. Because of this I keep getting a forced WDM driver for my AMD card.

I've also been trying to utilize some of the new apps they are building for the OS, like Mail and the new Edge browser more, especially on the tablet side, and have found it to be quite nice. I'm excited to see when they put in add-on support, since they have already talked about making it easy to port Chrome addons into the Edge environment. Their work to make it easier for developers to bring IOS and Android applications into the Windows OS environment without a ton of works has me hopeful and optimistic that we might start seeing some really nice apps become available in the app environment. This will be especially great since 10 is boasting a universal platform, build the app for a phone and it scales for a desktop.

Overall, I say if you are skeptical get it on a VirtualMachine or an unused box first, then move it over to your full system. There are recovery options built in when you run the upgrade, but i haven't utilized them to know how reliable they are in going back to 7 or 8 if you decide you cant stand 10. But unless you are truly stubborn, I find that a doubtful scenario :)

I've been beta testing it for months, and I honestly love it. It's stable, fast, easy to use. What more could we want?
