My racing job last summer! (Pics)
Hey guys, really enjoying the community here. Thought I would share some pics of how I earned a bit of money last summer (I'm a teacher most of the year). I worked for the Ferrari of Ontario team at Road America during the one of the Ferrari Challenge North America Races. My uncle is the crew chief for the team, and my dad works for the team as well. Luckily, they were short a body, so I was able to fill in! It was a weekend filled with damage and long nights in the pits, but had a great time doing it. I was also supposed to help out this summer at a race in Toronto, but we are short a few drivers and I wasn't needed. Hopefully I can go back and do it next year.
I spent the week making sure all sets of tires (practice, qualifying and race) were at the proper pressures, cleaned, and on the right cars.
We had 5 drivers that race, split into two divisions (depending on skill levels). They are were in Ferrari 458 Challenge EVO's like this one I'm sitting in.
This is one of our drivers, Robert Herjavec. Some of you may know him from the show Shark Tank (and more recently Dancing With the Stars...ugh). He had a bit of a rough weekend plagued with mechanical problems.
The mechanics working long into the night on one of our cars, replacing a radiator. It was all for not as the next morning he completely missed his braking line going into Turn 1 at Road America during qualifying for the second race and was done for the weekend.
My other main job was to help make sure we had the right amount of fuel for practice, qualifying and the races. I'm in the black venting while the other guy fills the tank. Those fire suits suck in 95 degree heat and high humidity!
Looking down towards Turn 1.
The Pirelli tent. All the tires are supplied by Pirelli. After each session, I had to bring all the tires back to the tent (cleaned), and they re balanced them and I took them back. Repeated this process for 5 practices, 2 qualifying sessions and 2 races..fun times!.
Anyway, just thought I would share! My dad is coming back from working at the Canadian Grand Prix as the Ferrari Challenge race was just before the F1 race. Would have loved to have gone to that!
