Lets talk about driving assists
This shouldn't be a taboo topic but I feel like I need to clear the air a little about assists, and why we allow them all in leagues, and leave it on during open racing, it seems like whenever assists are mentioned things get quiet, and some people seem to get defensive
Let me just start by saying several cars in project cars have assists in real life, like gt3 for example, so this isnt a conversation about playing realistically or not, because in real life some cars have it, and the pros use it. As for ingame some people need more to stay on the track, some people dont. We are a team with drivers who have skillsets that vary. We look at creating a league environment that's fun and inviting. What makes AOD Racing different than other leagues is that those leagues that are out there have drivers who apply and race but have no connection to other league members, so the people that run the league aim for creating the most hardcore environment possible irrespective if a member can drive on the track or not, they may not care, we do.
There is no way i'm going to omit a driver from AOD because he's still learning the game, or may be new to simracing, so to have assists off or even "realistic" may do just that, at the end of the day we are all looking out for each other, brotherhood, comradery, having fun, that's what matters.
Personally I believe the limit of how fast you can run with assists on are noway near as high as with "realistic" or off. Obviously under certain weather conditions it can help, but with enough practice with that car you will definitely be faster without it, since we run so many leagues with various cars, its not easy to master anything because we switch so often
Race with everyone spinning out everywhere? or, race with slower but at least stable cars around you?
But wait a minute wedge, this is a sim, and I want to race a sim the way its supposed to be, with drivers who I know are doing the same thing, OK.... more on this will be posted soon.
I get enough exercise just pushing my luck
I 100% agree with the decision to allow assists.
I would rather have somebody a bit slower in/out then have them spinning out of control.
Are people actually making an issue with those that use driving aids?
If that was the case...fixed interior view and no gamepads would need to be enforced as well.
I find I am "usually" faster without (aside from tcs that I can't seem to fully shake...but I am pretty muchrunning the slider to max) .I know most of the fast guys say they are "faster" without them...so it should be a non issue anyway. After a long discussion about pedal resolution and some features of the higher end pedals...it seems like there may be better ways to get a feel for the car..but until I can afford a set...I will use tcs.
I think I caught wind of what might be planned...should be interesting.
Looking fwd to next round.
