Ouch man that sucks. One thing I am personally going to be doing soon is running a raid 1. Which is for say I have 1tb HDD I can get another and raid them together at raid 1.
Which will allow me to have 2 HDD's with exactly the same information on it. So in a event like this if one drive fails the PC will notify you one is wrong and will run on the back up or vise versa.
This allows you to have a constant safety on all your information and if one does fail in a event you just buy another one and replace the bad one and it will copy over the information from the back up drive to the new one.
This also works for SSD's.
