    Default UPS Problem

    Greetings Everyone,

I'm hoping someone might be knowledgeable in this, I am presently in Iraq suffering from frequent power problems of course. I have a 650 UPS attached to my PC but it doesn't always function properly. I am trying to decide if this is the UPS or maybe i'm over burdening it ?

    Example of symptom:
i'd say 85% of the time power goes out it works properly but maybe 15% the device doesn't kick on and the computer fails. Than it turns on maybe 2-3 seconds later essentially defeating the purpose of its existence.

    MODEL:

    APC 650

If the unit isn't working all the time, then it completely defeats the purpose of having it

depends on how demanding your system is and what you're doing at the time. If you're trying to draw more than 650 watts from the unit, it probably WONT work. The only experience i have with UPSs is when i worked at a gas station, so i'm probably not a great source but it definitely makes sense that it wont kick on until it can actually supply the power you need

My apologies I didn't quite understand what you were asking, what are your full system specs? But Jay is correct in saying that if it can't supply full power, then it won't supply any.

I just ran some quick average numbers and I don't think you'd be pulling more than 550 to 600 watts from your PSU to power your computer at any given time, but depending on how many watts your monitor is pulling, likely is your deciding factor here. Or you just have a faulty UPS

Yea its not unlikely most things here are cheap imitations but these are from reputable supplers. ITs strange becuase it works 4 of 5 times but that 1 time it shuts off. Its this one i've had it in the other room on one it does the same thing. Oh the joys of being over here :)

Even though it may be from a reputable supplier, lemons still slip through every now and then.
