Default HELP! New Computer Operating System

    So,

    I'm very cheap.

    Incredibly cheap. I was wondering:

    - I have a new desktop computer, I'm assembling it from components with no operating system included.
    - I also have a laptop, fairly useless except for typing documents at school, which I've recently graduated anyway.
    - Said laptop has Windows 8 installed on it.

    --Can I:
---Download Windows 10 free upgrade for the laptop, but put it onto a USB device for upload to the new rig?

If so what pitfalls must I avoid or steps should I take?

I am not a 'Tech' guy at all, so any simple and concise explanations are greatly welcomed!

Thank you, you guys are my brain trust.

I've you have absolutely no use for the laptop at all, you could use that Drive as your primary one within the PC.

What you've asked might be possible but it may use up your laptops license or require you to purchase one for your PC.

    Yeah,

I went digging a little further.

I think the license for the laptop, which was purchased pre-installed/activated is bound to the motherboard.

I am cheap, but I'm not willing to pirate software. I will be securing a student version via my wife through the university and purchase it in a year when we have some more cash.

I do wish Operating Systems weren't so egregiously expensive though. Is it likely the price will go down at all after some time?

    Again, thanks

Buy one from G2A. That is what I used.
Download the operating system onto your USB and when loading up your computer boot it from your USB. Go through the steps and place the code you got from G2A. Should work fine.

What KwahamoT said, download that onto a USB and plug that into your new computer. If you don't want to spend money on a key you don't have to. Getting a key just makes your Windows versions active and you get all the customization options Windows had to offer.

I've heard that those keys on G2A are not legit. Well risky at the least.

That's true that the licence attaches itself to the serial number on the motherboard and/or processor.

If you're okay with Windows 7, you can get a system builders OEM for $59 off of Amazon. It's a full version with a key and everything.
