Default Tech Sapphire R9 380 vs GTX 960

So my GTX 750 has had it and I must replace it. I Have a tight Budget, well father of 3 just ask Boom Boom...

Will be either Saphhire R9 380 Nitro 4 gb DDR5 on 256 bit interface or n Vidia Gtx 960 4 Gb dd5 on 126 bit interface.

i run AMD 6 core Cpu of which I have forgoten the version ( will look it up once i get home)

Since I only play WT an nothing else I thought I'll ask you guys for advice. Wich one works best with WT, is 4GB a must have?

    Thxs in advance

On pure benchmark numbers the 960 edges out the R9 380 but only by a few hundred points (5,955 vs 5,531 respectively) as for specific to War Thunder will really need people with those cards to know for sure. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html for the scores.

What is your motherboard and cpu (I know it does not seem relevant but WT quite often gets CPU bottlenecked before GPU)? If the is a bottleneck then it will come down to personal choice (which I think it might do anyway)

Looking further afield the 380 does better in some 3D mark tests and benchmarking in games, but the 960 has better user ratings.

As for 4gb VRAM a must have? Generally speaking VRAM runs faster than RAM (DDR5 vs DDR3/4) but I have never seen WT use more than 2gb RAM total, but since my upgrade I have not been monitoring it as closely.

TL:DR; I think will come down to personal choice, cards are as close as dammit comparable.

I just bought a 960 2 Gb DDR 5 and and it changed my life. Even on max settings I am averaging 100 to 150 FPS and more with planes on most maps.
I love it, and it was only $218.00 at Best Buy. I am not a tanker so IDK how it does on GF maps. Most of rhe FPS problems I have read about on the WT forums
seem to do with ground maps. Bottom line is, your screen only displays 60 FPS so anything more is gravy. Nividia is partnered with Gaijin and have all the
proper drivers to make it work at it's best. The 970 and 980 are bigger and cost upwards of $400.00 so if money is an issue, go with the 960, but
more importantly, go with Nvidia as it is optimized for WT. Good luck and let us know what you do.

960 ~ $210-225 (or around $150 if you choose the 2gb model, which you shouldn't)
    970 4gb ~ $300-324
    980 4gb ~ $480 6gb ~ $650

Part picker is great for finding quick deals; http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/

Just letting him know the price spread, paying over $400 for a 970 is just nuts.

N.b. I have the 970 like a lot of other AoD members, but I also play a lot of other games. WT does not tax it in any way & depending on how pretty I want the game can max most thins out without issue

If you are on a budget, AMD is logical for the bang for your buck. My first consumer GPU was AMD for the price. I did experience issues with heat and fans.
AMD cards are known to run a bit hot and there have been minor compatibility issues with some AMD cards and War Thunder in the forums.
I have had EVGA cards and AMD cards- EVGA is my choice.
IMHO, the 960 will do it. The price and performance are solid.
The 970's price/performance is a decision you might consider spending an extra $100 on if you are feeling frisky. The 970 seems to be the consumer's choice on Amazon verified purchase reviews .

Suddenly checked the "location" box under mephysto's name & saw "France", so talking in USD is most likely not to relevant.

The does not seem to be a french "part picker" site but this link has a few other places named on it, and I am sure you will have you own in-country sources (judging by what you picked out am certain of it).

Shame about the budget, but breaking it down to price:benchmark score the 960 is actually better value £:point than the 970(cant get euro symbol to work) (960>970 is a 48% increase in price for a 45% increase in score). Going from GTX 750 > 960 is an 84% increase in "power". (Using benchmarks again as makes it easier, the site is here )

Going back to 380 vs 960. I for many years was a AMD fan, but the driver support eventually got to me and switched to the 970 a few months ago. Since then had one teething issue but nothing else, hence why I am saying Nvidia

First let me thank you for your feedback.

So just to sinthétise: 1 ) N Vidia seems to work best also it's a little more expensive. 2) I will not find buget for a 970 or 980. 3) Some brands are better than other .

I shall go for n vidia Gtx 960 and get the 4 GGB version if not for Wt, for my 14 years old which is slowly becoming an addict gamer...

If your budget is limited, I think getting an old card from e-bay is an attractive option as well.
I've got myself this one for slightly less than 200Eur including shipping, briefly after christmas when many people got their upgrades and flushed the market with their 'old' cards: http://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-DisplayP...eforce+780+gtx

I've used to buy new best budget cards, but after the purchase of the 780 I think getting former high-end cards is the better way to go. Not only do you get more performance/money, but also the peripherals of the card (the cooler in particular) have got a way higher quality compared to new best budget cards. There is just the lack of guarantee and chance of someone sells you broken shit. Still, I think my next card will come out of someones 1-year old high-end machine again.

Maybe uninstall/reinstall the game, now that the new card is in place?

If running through steam, verify cache.
right click on War Thunder in the library
    -> properties
    -> local files
-> verify integrity of game cache

If not running through steam, Delete Cache folder from within War Thunder and reload the launcher.

Ok Sorted, in fact I reinstalled the drivers and drivers only, the complete install modified DNS.
