I wouldn't mind my main monitor being a 35" Curved 144hz monitor .. but 1000$ dollars on a monitor is hard when i'm still rocking the ddr3

I cannot second this thread enough :)

I had been on the fence about what monitor to get with my new build. I had to go into the store (Micro Center) to actually see if there was a way to test in person vs. reading reviews, etc...

Unfortunately, and this is something Micro Center needs to consider, the few 144Hz monitors that they had were just hooked up to a standard PC and not doing anything to truly showcase the capabilities of a 144Hz display.

While I'm a major nVIDIA "fanboi" (currently running a GTX 980 Ti), I ended up buying the AMD version of the Asus 144Hz display (MG279Q). The use of AMD Freesync or nVIDIA G-Sync won't matter all that much when your rig can consistently push enough FPS to keep up with the refresh rate. In this case, with my new build, I've never had an issue keeping up with always running at 144Hz.

Like you, I'm NEVER going back :)

When I bought that first Asus 144Hz monitor, it replaced one of my 24" LC 1080p (60Hz) monitors, so it left me with the new one and then one of the other "inferior" monitors (heh). It wasn't too long before I ended up buying a second MG279Q to replace it because once I saw how good the new one looked, it was extremely tough going back and forth between the Asus and the LG.

One thing I believe that's better when comparing the Freesync model displays vs. the G-Sync model displays (at least, from what I can tell with Asus) is that the Freesync variants leverage IPS panels vs. the TN panel. The TN panels have a better response time (1ms vs. the IPS 4ms) but the color range on an IPS panel is amazing. That, and of course, the cost difference.

I'm going to be working on "Phase II" of my build later this year once the new Intel Broadwell-E chips and nVIDIA Pascal cards come out, and depending on what I go with, may look at getting a third 27" LCD. Will have to re-think my desk design and such if I do that, though, and probably go with two of the new cards for SLI. If I get the third monitor, I might pick a G-Sync model just to compare.

One thing I'm still playing around with is how much of a difference I can see between running 144Hz or 120Hz. So far, can't tell a difference, other than what it does to the load on my GPU.

I'll do some digging around with other monitors, however, I like what's being said here.

Mine's about 10-15 minutes away. I keep debating as to whether or not it being so close is a blessing, or a curse ;)

Same. 144hz is just night and day. There will never be going back. Big reason Im waiting for 4k is to get the 144hz, which we'll have to wait for DP3x for that. Isnt it amazing after all these years, you finally go get a good monitor and wonder why you never had one before. Its like having all the power of a maclaren f1, with the chassis and body of a rusted ford pinto. The monitor is the one thing that displays everything else your computer does. Makes sense for it to be the best. Now come on 4k at 144+!
