    Default What the hell.....

    http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreak...-computex-2016

someone explain this to Me please.I know enough about computers to be dangerous *Like,I know where the key and the gas goes...*. However,as I understand it,when it comes to cores, there is a level of diminishing return. That is to say, that at some point,it doesn't matter HOW many cores You have,You won't get better/faster/stronger performance?I may be wrong and have misunderstood it.I'm trying to read/learn about computers for My own knowledge, and THIS makes little/no sense to Me

Think it is a case of seeing how far they can push the technological limits, but bare in mind the x64 was seen with suspicions when I built my first computer back before uni, now things are considered ancient if they don't have 64 bit architecture.

Maybe in 10 years having a dec-core cpu will be the minimum, but yeah essentially they are just seeing what they can do & selling it to keep the funds rolling in.

And yet Microsoft in their infinite wisdom still don't fully support the 64 bit system with many of the packages! Just try and buy any Office product and you will have to hunt around for the link to get the 64 bit version and the 32 bit versions wont install on a 64 bit system - Their support even admits they haven't ever fully upgraded any of their products to 64 bit.

These are the people we are entrusting to provide us with reliable OS!

Android, Linux, Apple, they all fully support 64 bit and arm, and even provide full support for Oct-core in all three cases.

Personally I think Microsoft want us all to still be using the x86 processors running at 10Mhz we had when the released Win 3 LOL (And yes I did mean Mega Hertz)

Oh I remember the excitement of the 1ghz barrier being broken well, the first computer I really got to grips with had a massive 6gb HDD!

It's amazing what a bit of perspective will do. When I had a 4.77MHz 8088 PC XT w/128Kb and a 10 Mb Hard disk (notice the units MHz, Kb, and Mb) I was ecstatic with the release of the GUI interface 8Mz 68000 based Atari ST with 512MB up-gradable to 1024Kb and a whopping 20 Mb hard drive. Why would anyone EVER need anything faster or with more storage? .......

Don't most games currently have trouble using 4 or more cores?

those cpu's are a bit early even the best optimased games out there won't make profit of 10 cores , games barely work with 4cores theres days

yeah this was my thought, although 10 cores may be the architecture the usage per core as far as applications go will be way more dependent on how they program it. In other words it could be much better if programs being run on the computer support using its cores to their full potential.

How I see it, is that the more cores you got, the more tasks you can do simultaneously. For example, if you got a 1 core processor, it can only handle 1 task at a time, compared to a processor with 4 cores which can handle 4 tasks at the same time.

With that in mind, more cores doesn't incerease the speed or workpower of your cpu? As Rubble said in his post.

But then again, I know nothing for sure

The truth is they taped a bunch of ZX80's together, but run out of tin foil to make the bridges with.
