I am planning on using this for my next build.
CPU is fan cooled because you get good quality for the price and a dual fan cooler is great. A good CPU is highly recommended since some games are CPU bound and don't rely on the GPU that much (PlanetSide 2) It would also help with video rendering. For a GPU I stuck with a 1070 because a 1080 is a ungodly amount of money that I don't think it is what it's worth.

6700k has 8 Threads compared to 4 and has a higher default clock speed. Yes it is $100 more but it overclock a a little better. You can yield massive amounts of performance if you use all the redundant cores and unpark them. But I really think 6700k is better because the Proccessor is top of the line so it is like future proofing.

It is better but by 7%. Hyper Threading does not help in games. In fact, most games actually perform by 2% less when Hyper Threading is turned on. It's a fact and a lot of benchmarks prove that. i7 6700k is not $100 worth the upgrade.
Here is the proof.
This guy runs i7 6700k GTX 1070 BF4
And here is me running i5 6600k GTX 1070 in Battlefield 4.
It's exactly same FPS range.

Here is another proof in Star Wars Battlefront.
This guy runs same settings and gets a bit less FPS than I do while I'm playing on much more performance demanding maps. His setup i7 6700k GTX 970
Here is my i5 6600k paired with GTX 970
To add more to all of this. The i7 6700k is exactly same i5 6600k chip but on steroids with 300 Mhz default clock boost, 2 Mb extra cache memory and extra 4 threads, which in gaming doesn't make any difference as you can see in above video's.
To back it up here is an overall average compare on both CPU's. Keep in mind that results and all numbers are based on average score from all kinds of builds. You can see that there are 28k+ benchmark tests done with i7 6700k and 16k+ benchmarks done with i5 6600k

Depends, cache and hyperthreading is better suited for more of a workstation type of thing but it all depends the purpose of the rig. If you just want to game and no video editing or anything the i5-6600k would be fine but if you are still in school then i7-6700k would be better suited as it more alike to the X99 chipsets

I use i5 6600k also for my work. I run 6 VMs daily to do system test for my work prior I deploy anything onto production servers. Like I said, it's not worth $100 upgrade. I would just jump straight to X99 platform instead then. And speaking of school, I went to IT program and did all my projects on my MacBook Pro.
So I went through and I think I finally have my final build. Let me know what you all think.

I would of went with DDR4 but hey, DDR4 vs. DDR3 isn't that much of a peformance difference. I think it is perfect just don't forget to have thermal paste. If you wanted you could add some case fans.

Not sure where you are seeing that it doesnt support ddr3 and that it only supports ddr4 because it clearly states ddr3 on pcpartpicker along with newegg.

I also wanted ddr4 but for some reason I picked the asus z170. Meant to get the Asrock z170. Went back and fixed it. Here is updated one.

My bad I'm just used to higher end motherboards and did not check the specs of that mobo. I saw Z170 and thought it's a DDR4 mobo.
Why not go with a higher end motherboard and DDR4? And instead of getting ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1070 OC get a standard. They are completely identical except that OC edition already comes pre-clocked with a bit higher clock, which is BS because you can overclock the card anyways. I overclocked mine to 2050Mzh without any issues.

PCpartpicker won't display the price but I can tell it's $30 cheaper. So you are just adding $10 for a better build :-)

Its all good just got really confused lol. Yea I went ahead and took heed of that build you posted. I don't know too much about mobo just yet so I am still learning quite a bit about them other than the basics. And the reason that I picked that one is because it had the price. I am not going to go with the oc version. I don't dabble in oc yet as I have no need for it for the most part. I believe I have finished the build if no one else has any comments. If so I will leave this open until the end of tomorrow. Thanks for all your help and information though.
