Default Exploding EVGA GTX 1060, 1070 and 1080 ACX 3.0 models (dual fans)

So, it is been reported that the models mentioned in the title are catching fire due to some thermal issue in the VRM, since I own a GTX 1080 SC I deeply regret buying that shit lmao.

For more information I'll leave some useful links:

    http://wccftech.com/nvidia-gtx-1080-...es-fire-video/

    https://www.extremetech.com/computin...er-vrm-cooling

You can get a thermal pad kit, and I think an "updated" replacement (which I think it only has some VBIOS update) from EVGA directly:

    http://www.evga.com/thermalmod/

Some sites are reporting that only the FTW version is the one having issues, due t some PCB plate design that is not present in the SC model for example, still I'm concerned about this.

it could be just evga, if you read the 3rd link above, you see EVGAs spreadsheet thingy with each part number per model that is effected, Which a VBIOS update will fix..

Mine is the 08G-P4-5173, but mine is 08G-P4-5173-KR...
Anyone know what the -KR means and if that changes anything? did a quick check on it could not find anything

The -KR means it has a 3 Year Warranty. This is standard on all EVGA Part Name Schemes. Also, if your's does catch fire, then EVGA will most certainly replace the card, and probably other components if they are damaged. EVGA's Customer Support is some of the best I have ever encountered.

Glad I replaced my EVGA GTX 960 with ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1070 and went with ASUS this time :-) No issues with this card and overclocks like a charm and temps stay between 62 - 63C with 45% fan speed.

The gods know that we are converting our everyday activities to computers. They first turned our phones into bombs, now they are turning our graphics cards into bombs.

TL;DR Either the gods hate us, or Nvidia really doesn't like it's customers.

It's actually only EVGA cards. It was a complete oversight on EVGA's part and the CEO has said that if you want to fix it yourself (they send out free repair kits for the issue) and you screw it up further, they will still replace the card if you have it registered.

EVGA has not been doing good lately with graphics cards. First their GTX 970 didn't have 4 Gg of VRAM but 3.5 + 0.5 and now VRM problems. Not a good time to have EVGA graphic cards.

It's not EVGA that had 3.5 GB issue, it's the NVIDIA.

So, just so I am clear. The ASUS Strix series is not apart of this problem?

The ONLY cards that are a part of the oversight are EVGA Cards. EVGA made an error and oversight and are correcting the problem immidiately.

As far as I heard it's only GTX 1070 FTW, so you should be ok with your GTX 1060, I guess.
