    Icon10 Anybody else use linux?

I use mainly Linux because i limit myself.
I do that because i keep downloading malware in the past on windows.
And linux may be limited on software, BUT, it rarely has viruses
because it's not used by the world that much, unless it's used for servers.
It is still prone to being hacked, though it is much harder.

I'm wondering, Does somebody use linux too? and if so, then why?

I use windows on my desktop because I need the easy access but I use Linux on my laptop. I use Linux on my laptop because the laptop is running a Intel Celeron and I need a little less resource hungry OS.

I use Windows for Desktop but Linux at work cause servers run on Linux. Also, I use Linux on VMs for studying purposes and multiple projects that I do at work prior I create a new deployment plan. I use Oracle Linux - it's Red Hat distro.
I also use Mac OSX on my Macbook Pro.

As for malware on Windows. I don't really recall when was the last time I got one. You just need to learn to be cautious when you brows the internet and download less torrents. Moreover, create a VM with Windows and use that to brows websites that you are not sure about. If you get malware on a VM then screw it... just reset the image and you are good to go again.

Personally I have becoming more and more distant from PC. I still use it for gaming and general use, but through my work I have converted completely over to mac. But the argument I make for it could be made for any unix based OS. I use it for development, and it just *works*.

I know macs tend to be cost prohibitive, and I honestly would find it difficult to buy one myself, but after nearly 20 years of complete PC usage, and only needing 3 days to convert, they've done a few things right.

I support about 700 Linux servers all over the world, running as VM's on ESXi.

yep, it is faster than windows, it is easier to mess around with configurations, more agile. I currently use Mint but a variety of others also. I bought a second hand Atom book(with cracked screen) for around $20 and put a light weight distro on it and ran it as a server for a while.

Made the switch around windows 95 after frustrations in using that, I found windows in each iteration divorces you from the underlying machine and linux is a breath of fresh air in that regard. I must admit I have killed a few linux installs by messing around but you learn form your mistakes and it is easy to do a fresh install with out loosing all your personal files.

I dual boot ubuntu on my HDD on my desktop as a backup to windows. I had windows shit itself on an update which made me lose all my info. I needed something I could readily boot to and access files with. Now I run an SSD as my primary drive so its less of an issue, if one shits out I can boot to the other. Also classwork is backed up on google drive.
