9.11: where were you?
This is a hard day for me as a veteran, as it is for some others for whatever reason. If you're having trouble, you're not alone.
Seventeen years ago, I was a student for Baylor Trucking. I came out of study to see on a tv that a plane was flying into a building and couldn't get the guy at the desk to tell me what was going on. I was frightened because someone was attacking our country. All I wanted to do was rush to help and couldn't because the bastard at the desk told me not to worry about it and to get back to class. Throughout the week that followed all I could see or remember were the planes ramming themselves into the buildings and how powerless I felt. I didn't stay with trucking too long after that.
In the seventeen years since this incident befell our country I have tried to divert my life to helping my fellow man instead of hindering growth. I have personally raised over $10,000 for local charities and have started food and toy drives for homeless youth and families. I hope that I can continue to do good work for others. I have to look at the good that can be done because there is so much negative in the world.
Where were you?

I think I was in fifth grade at the time. The day was actually weirdly fun for us, as we weren't told by our teacher what was going on, but a lot of parents decided to have their kids come home early for the day. So we knew something was up and were wondering who was going home next or what was going on. I think I learned when I went home, but honestly I'm unsure if I learned it that day at school or later on.

Knee High to a Worms Ass
I was at my house, no school that day. Turned on the TV and was shocked. At first I thought it was from a movie since I was really young. So surreal..

i had gone in early for work and was reading the news on the internet when a picture came up of a small mark on one of the twin towers - at that point they were saying that a fire broke out. a few miniutes later there was an update stating that a plane had hit the building. at that point, i found a live feed and watched as the second plane slammed into the second building.
i am canadian, and never before had i felt so much fear for humanity and in particular for our friends to the south. all my employees had gathered around my computer to watch what was going on. we finally just closed the shop and went next door with our chairs to the electronics store and sat and watched the crisis unfold on all their TVs that morning, along with the staff at that store. kleenex was passed around as we watched in shock - the devastation to the US and the world at that point was unbelievable. there were no dry eyes.

in 2nd grade I remember seeing my teacher cry hysterically and not understanding what had happened.

I was working at Pennzoil & I will never forget that day.
Beautiful morning, & we had just opened.
The 3rd person who came, not that we knew it at the time, would be our last customer that day.
The woman, who was the 3rd customer, told us what was just said on the radio. We turned our radio on only to hear the announcement minutes after it happened.
I hopped in my truck, drove home & grabbed my TV then went back to work. We were all in shock as we watched the news live in the office. It was awful. It looked like something out of a movie, but it was real & it happened.
The Gas Station across the street raised the price of gas from $0.98/gal to $4.30/gal. People were stocking up on supplies, fighting & arguing with each other; it was a crazy day.
Not sure what time I went to sleep that night, but I remember watching the news at home with my mom & step-dad into the night.

I miss USAS
Watching the planes land in gander newfoundland WITH there being a risk of more terrorists on these planes.
It was a sad day but it was also a day the world and Americas closest Ally came together to help each other.

Boycott shampoo! Demand the REAL poo!
I was going to my first year in college at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. I was wandering to another class down the hall when I noticed no one was in the halls and everyone in all the classes I passed by were watching TV. I asked a passerby what was going on and they dragged me to the nearest TV to watch. After that I was horrified at what I saw.

I was 13 years old. Skipped out of school that day. Walked into my moms bedroom where she had the news on and seen plane #1 hit. Looked around and didn't see a news caption so I thought "What movie is this? Looks real as fuck!" She told me what was going on and stayed glue to the TV all day. Learned quite a very valuable lesson that day.

I was at the local billiards joint playing with friends when we saw it on the news. We couldn't believe what was happening and thought it was some twisted TV show. I'll never forget that sinking feeling in my chest after realizing it was real!

I was sitting on my couch watching a news story, the caption said "small" airplane hits WTC. I remember think that's a lot of smoke for a small plane, then the second one hit, the rest is history. As a regional airline captain at the time I had a schedule that operated between Portland ME and Boston, when I returned to work the flight attendant had informed me that the FBI interviewed her because two of the terrorists did testing runs on two of our flights days before the actual attack and is why I take aviation security very seriously.

6th Grade Math class. Was one of the biggest reasons I joined the military and I don't regret that decision.
