    Default Advice on DM/GMing

I believe this is where this post goes. If not I apologize. I am soon going to be my family/group's DM/GM. The game we are going to be playing is CyberPunk RED. I need advice on how I help ease the stress of new players. I have played as a player in both Pathfinder 1E and a DnD 5E(Modified). I have the Core Rules for CyberPunk RED, with some extra elements (Gear Expan, 1 Shots, etc). This game is going to be a 2 party game. Both have never played a TTRPG before. One is very hesitant about playing in fear that they won't play/RP well. The other is an individual that is young (teenager) and has some issues focusing. Any advice would be helpful.

There's actually a thread on our Discord regarding D&D or any TTRPG. Look for the thread that displays Dungeons & Dragons, you will most likely get more traffic going through that.

If you message me on Discord (Same Name) I can help you out on some DMing guides that could help you.

There is technically no such things as RPing well. Everyone RPs in their own way that suits them best.

Hit me up or toss out a message in the discord thread. There are plenty of players who have DM'd before, besides myself.

Hey bud. I've DM'd a couple homebrew campaigns and i've had all sorts in regards to players. For those that don't feel like they would RP well I would recommend telling them to just be themselves. My buddy recently had the same sentiment about not knowing how to role play. I told him be yourself and make decisions that the character would make. There are a few charts out there that help with analogies for alignments etc. When I showed him the DC one with Superman being lawful good and batman being chaotic good he was able to understand a little better. The whole point is to have fun. I rarely if ever say no as a DM and make them roll for it, however, the die can be fickle. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

Hey, I just saw this, but if it is not too late feel free to hit me up on Discord as well. I have been GMing for quite a few years, many of those with a few groups most of which were completely new to a ttrpg as well, so I like to think I have some experience I can give.

I think the best thing you can do is just make the environment welcoming to anyone who you might be playing with, and ensure them that there is no right or wrong way to play a character or how to RP, as long as they are having fun and enjoying themselves. With a group of just 2, and since they are family/good friends, I think there are a lot of techniques you can use to also make sure they are engaged in the story and creating the adventure with you. One of my favorite techniques to use, especially if someone is having trouble RPing, is to ask them directly what their character would do in a situation, and let them know it is okay to narrate what they would do in the third-person if that is easier for them. Usually, from my experience, this gets them out of the fear of having to first-person RP which a lot of first-timers I noticed have trouble doing.
