TF2 is only the start of Valve F2P games. =|

"Every one of these cracks, every one of these chips holds an epic story. You can try to take us down, but there is a reason we're still standing strong."
War Thunder Sgt
I don't have it because my gaming rig cant' run it... It's pushing 8 years old with a few upgrades here and there :/
i reley dont wan to say this, but i have to now.
Never owned it, lol I am not a Valve fanboy, and that game has never looked like it was worth buying.
Thats not 100% true the game was bought as rights when the modding group(Black Cat Games) who created it was signed with Valve as part of the deal. They where asked to complete the game to be released as free 2 play just to get there names out as Valve employees dont forget valve has a big rep for hiring within the modding community.
But Alien Swarm did start out as a Unreal Tournament 2004 mod and then brought over to the Source SDK named as a sequel to the orginal mod.
As for free 2 play games we should start seeing more and more comming out now they have a soild micotransaction system working.
bf2142 with ingame adverts do you all rember the crap the pc community made about that.EA reased fifa disks for free but had mirotransactions 5p for injury updates,10p for a new strip and they found they got more money then they would have from normal sales.Bethesda sold a set of virtual horse armour for $2.50 as a download for Oblivion.
Hell theres loads more but i guess you get the idea. Over the next few years we should start to see patterns of how games are released
buy the game 15-30 pounds, (EA 30-60, Activison 30-60)
> within 6-8months >
we start getting more and more micotractions
> 6-8 Months later >
the game now goes free2Play
> within the next 6-8 months >
Micotractions have brought in more per person then selling the game for just 30-60 pound and for the two listed spreate they have now made double per game iam joking about EA and Activison but you get the idea.
WoW has been doing a good transaction system for years now ever since the confrence they had a few years ago the change in companys has been mental trying to control every aspect of gaming.
Anyhow you get the idea and we should start seeing more and more normal games having micotransacions systems inplace ready to take our hard earned cash for everyday stuff :-(
isit a bad idea or good i guess only time will tell?
Where as I don't have a problem for free to play games(it increases some games populations), seeing as that means I can play games I might normally have not purchased for free. Depending on the F2P/Microtransaction model used in the game, can make a game you're paying for either utter crap in quality due to the drive for just pure cash profits or it can make a game become frustrating and one sided due to people being able to buy upgrades or items. Like most korean F2P's, be prepared to not get anywhere unless you're dumping in money and For an example the guns in APB Reloaded, you can buy a gun and completely shred players of higher level and skill purely because the weapon is overpowered. Yes I think that if you pay for something you should get your money's worth but when you're getting said item and completely unbalancing gameplay to people that invest time, it kind of loses its fun over time and a badly implanted F2P microtransaction system will easily destroy the long term playability of a game if its not done correctly.
In my opionion microtransactions should never go past cosmetic items in a game.
