    Icon4 Memorial Day Tribute

After weeks of silent brooding, I can finally release my sophomoric video as it ended up being slated for a Memorial Weekend release.

It's a bit different vein than my first one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw0JqydhbRI).

It started with the soundtrack- music that as I listened to it I was sure it conveyed a story. Dabbling with some storyboard elements led me to one of my favorite poems, which while quite short is rich in depth- at least to me.

As such, my preferences for viewing this movie are 1) Music volume turned to 11 and 2) Full Screen 1080p HD with the lights off for the richest Blacks.

Still rather basic as I was only using Windows Movie Maker, but I more or less achieved what I was going for.

And should anyone ask, my favorite moment is around 1:40. Totally unscripted, almost magical in its own right.

    Without further ado- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6zGhQSKv4E

P.S. Enjoy the BBQs and Golden Eagles and all that, but take some time to reflect on the real significance of this weekend.

On this hallowed Ground I tread,Corfams on grass still hard as steel
White crosses in each direction to see, Loved one's and family kneel

The scene's they know are of love and hope,Birthday wishes and New telescopes
but that I could tell them,of their loved one's last day,the Hero that I knew, now at rest He lay
When those around Him lost their cool,He stood tall and brought the tools
Directing fire, with a smile and wave, changed the battlefield and sent many enemy to their graves

Flashing smile, short of speech,The Man defiantly strode into that breach,Though I shook,I cried a bit
I follow Him anywhere, that glorious son of a bitch!
He makes BDU's look like gold, and that rifle He carries is lethal I'm told
But nothing stands to shine against His warriors soul

That last day was dark when We crossed the line, down the road into the sunshine
We heard the crack, saw the flash,2 Humvee's and a buffalo, dead in the pass.
From His trusty Trak He rose 1st of all "GET THOSE MEN TO SAFETY' He told us all
Into that pass We did run, under fire from every rocket and gun..Not one Man was left behind

When We returned, whence We'd come,We looked to the turret with it's twin .50 guns
To find our Sgt,Slumped on the hull, blood ran red,but We remained cool
MEDICUP to the Trak We cried,as We loaded the Wounded for the Helo ride
I ran to His trak,to see the corpman's face,a grimace of pain and sour aftertaste

I'd seen that look, more than once before. I knew that My Sgt. was now in Evermore
Upon the plains of Valhalla, with warriors like He,they rest, the final battle's trumpet call
    will be their final test.

14 Men were saved that day,and one Hero lost to the cause. We are poorer now as a Nation, for having endured His loss.
Your heels they sink into granite rock grass, weeping tears of dew with each step that will pass
The path to His rest is easy to walk, though the pain and memories make it seem made of impervious rock

You know Him as the boy who lost His tooth, couldn't hit the porch with Your newspaper, only the roof
I know Him as a Man,who led others to glory, and It's now My job to tell the story.Your Boy was honorable
to first and last,Never led from the rear, always first in the door post-blast

She remembers Him at Prom,I remember His football games in the dust and setting sun
Your tears are of pain and loss,My heart is heavy that You never met "The Boss'

You'd be proud of Your Boy from Paducah, perhaps Michigan, or even Deluca. Sandy haired, smile of ease
He now lives in eternal autumn breeze
Fear not Your loss be forgotten, for I wear a scar too, from the battle that's not forgotten
Not upon My skin, for those can be healed and hidden
Nor upon My heart, for those can be forgiven

No,It's My soul, that aches as each second ticks. For I could not save Your boy,no matter all My tricks
The sunglasses that show My reflection back, the tear tracks on My face
I was in that trak,I stood in that Mans place.
The red cross upon My shoulder, was not a shield for death that day, instead the evil one, crept up and took Him away

Please forgive Me,for I did the best I could. But each day I remember Him,and for that which He defiantly stood
Not truth or justice,or even the 'Murican way. He stood for Me and Mine, each and every day
The Man to His left, and the Brother on His right. He'd give His life for us He'd say,and dammit He was right

Rest easy family, for I'll be here all day.Standing guard and watch over Yours and Mine, this Memorial Day.
For When He stood for US,the ultimate gift was given. It is only right that I should stand in.
I cannot forget, nor do I try. For I will always remember Sgt *Name witheld* til I too,die...

    *moment of silence*

    Great one nim!
I was truly amazed at the dedication shown by ERK's wingman.
ERK must be an extremely inspirational leader given that his team mates follow him unto death.

    ....great one nim and brubble.

Several moments of silence reflecting upon the countless number of men and women who have bravely sacrificed their time and all too often their lives to serve and protect our great nation.

I'd also like to provide a belated recognition of
    Peace Officers Memorial Day
    Also called National Police Week
    Date May 15
I have a very close friend who recently retired after 30 years of Police service. He had to take time off to attend far too many Police funerals during the time I've known him. The risks they take and their contributions and daily sacrifices to protecting our safety are rarely appropriately recognized. On behalf of myself and my family thank you for keeping us safe.
