Need help Random Reboots with my gaming laptop
I have a MSI 683GT DRX and i have had it for about 3 years, a couple months ago i got this Error PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable. While my laptop still booted and worked fine a new issue came up shortly after and that was random reboots. Sometimes it would reboot while i was on google chrome and sometimes while i was gaming, over time the restarts have gotten worse, some times it will restart as soon as i turn on my laptop.
I have tried a number of things to fix it such as
-Changing the boot order in my bios
-Turning off speedstep
-Tested my video ram
-Tested my ram with memtest 86x
-Did a recovery back to factory fresh settings
-Tested my power adaptor
-Did a 16 hour benchmark to test the graphics card in which did not restart
-Tested the CPU no errors found
Leads on to what might be causing the problem
-I did get a blue screen of death 050x000000000 which from what i read has to due with the ram.
-I did however find a boot error in my hard drive, which also could have effected the recovery.
-Will not reboot in the bios
-Restarted a lot when i was trying to go into my hard drive settings and change the amount of GB's for each hard drive.
From what i have found and i believe it may be an issue with the hard drive in which would be an easy fix for me, however i want your guys take on also what might be causing the problem from the information i have provided above.
Boycott shampoo! Demand the REAL poo!
Check temperatures ASAP! It honestly sounds like your laptop is cooking itself Go and grab CPUID's HWMonitor and post the recorded temps on here please http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Ensure they are in Celsius btw.

Download Data Lifeguard.
Run a Quick Test. If it passes, run the Full Test.
Media test failure is almost always your HDD failing a SMART test.
Reference: I own an IT company and replace 2-3 hard drives a week with that exact issue.
Let me know what happens!
Thanks for the replys guys, i forgot to mention the temps are fine and i dusted the living crap out my laptop so heat is not the issue as far I know. Solitaire I think you may be on to something as the random reboots started happening right around same i got the Media Test Failure. When i get windows installed i will run data lifeguard and give it a try.
can you go to C:\Windows\Minidump and then upload the latest minidump to a file host this will allow us to see what is failing.
Also, what temperatures are you actually getting?
http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ the open hardware monitor will allow you to see the peak temperatures

Normally I'd say exchange parts which you think are defect. But since you have a laptop that's pretty much out of the question.
What I would do if I were you, you said it was a RAM problem. So get another old laptop and exchange the ram and see if that fixes the issue. (Ofcourse this is just a troubleshooting, not a fix)
I took an IQ test and the results were negative
I just fixed this very thing for a friend. There was an issue with bad sectors on his boot drive. SMART threw up constantly and reboots became constant, every 2 - 3 minutes. I changed the drive over to one I had laying around, and viola, no reboots. I would suggest swapping the HD out and see if that fixes your problem. HTH
Just an update, my laptop won't shut down or restart if it's running off of the battery, and my AC adapter is making a weird ticking noise.
The adapter may have a failing capacitor. Are you able to easily open it and then look at which capacitor it is using, then buy some replacement capacitors that you can resolder? (you can tell if a cap is bad, if it has a bulge on the top)
