Default what happened to my speakers?

so i started having issues with my mic in particular one day and fixed it by reinstalling my sound drivers (including the realtek HD audio manager) and some new ones specific for my headset. now my good speakers that use the optical port dont work at all despite everything being set up identically as far as i can tell. other speakers in the standard ports work, my USB head set works. just not the optical and i am confused. the audio manager registers that stuff is pugged in and even confirms its sending data when the speaker is selected. only thing i mucked with was the drivers too. and no google-foo has no availed me this time.

Could you post some screenshots of your audio manager? I think I might know what the problem is, but I can't be sure.

This happened to me recently. Not exactly, but very similar. I used my headphones on a different computer, and when I re plugged them into my Desktop, all the settings reset. I upgraded the sound drivers, and would not work properly.

It ended up being a Ventrilo setting issue.

I assumed it was the "Voice' tab, but that did nothing.

Under the "Binds" tab, I had to re-select the proper USB headset. The whole system was defaulting to the headset, instead of splitting the USB head-set from the 'green speaker 3.5mm port" (might be the same with an optical port tech wise).

    Worth a shot!

i believe i was unclear. I fixed my original problem. My mic, head set, and speakers from the other computer all work just fine. but my good speakers that used to work fine now dont. They use the optical input. and someone sent me a PM trying to help. I guarentee though that when i get the problem fixed i will return here and update the thread so input is still welcome.

easiest way to tell if is the speakers or not is to plug them into another optical device such as your TV, dvd player or stereo. if it works and you used the same cable as your pc then it is your pc. if it doesnt work try a different cable. if it works then it is the cable and if not then it is your speakers.

    Goodluck

alright, so i got a new cord that uses a different input type and had the same result. such evidence makes no sense though as that suggests when i mucked about with the drives the speakers suddenly went dead. it has to be some kind of compatability think somehow. could the HD audio manager not understand the speakers? its a Vizio sound bar plus sub.
