Im looking to upgrade my ram. I have 4 Ram Slot and need an upgrade. Anyone have any advice on good RAM? I looking to get anywhere from 8-16 gigs depending on speeds/price/etc... Thanks

I'm using 8GB(2 sticks of 4GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600MHz. It runs pretty good but with these big games like BF4 and Archeage, I'm running out of RAM with a second monitor up. I'd go 16GB if possible, but definitely check how much RAM your motherboard supports.

Just avoid the mostly unknown brands. RAM is largely standardized and thus the only thing that will impact performance will be the clock speed and the timings. For the vast majority of games and non gaming applications, the RAM bandwidth is not a bottleneck so DDR3 1600 will offer more than enough memory performance.

I recommend going for at least 12-16GB (you can mix and match memory as long as they support the same voltage ranges, and that both channels are even e.g., channel 1 having a 2, and 4GB stick, and channel 2 having its own 2, and 4GB stick for a total of 12GB)

    Default RAM Upgrade Advice

I would suggest mushkin redlines or corsair vengeance. Both have had great compadability and customer service. I would agree that dram speeds dont give the biggest bang for the buck but recent tests show that 1866mhz is the new minimum speed for performance. 8GB is plenty for single monitor gaming.

If you have a large heatsink on your processor you might need low profile RAM. If not, any 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 DDR3 ram will be fine. See if there is something on offer, if not go for one of the middle road options and you should be fine.

I'm using the Kingston XMP Beast 8GB 2133Mhz(The 16GB would be fine too) and didn't have any problems since I got them a year ago no freezes and stuff and it really helps if you're editing.

Corsair and Kingston are reliable and reasonably priced. I'm sure there are other brands. Tom's Hardware and Amazon are great places to check reviews.

I know I'm probably stating the obvious but you must have a 64bit machine or it wont be available to windows.
