Free Allegiance
(This isn't a division request as this is such an old, almost dead game. I'm just trying to find other players)
So I was wondering if anyone here played the game Allegiance. It was originally made by Microsoft all the way back in 2000. Back then, it was hailed in some gaming magazines as "The best game you've never played." It's also widely considered to have been very ahead of its time, even though it wasn't played very much. It is unfortunately going very dead, as almost no one is online anymore. It is a shame, as it was a very fun game that I could spend hours playing.
Allegiance is a multiplayer space combat simulator. There are several parts to the gameplay, which I will attempt to summarize:
Base Management:
Asteroids - There are five different types of asteroids in the game: Normal, Helium, Carbon, Silicon, and Uranium. Each of these asteroids have a different purpose.
Economy - AI controlled miners mine He asteroids. This is the primary source of income for the team.
Tech Tree - The tech tree will vary depending on which game core you choose to play as, but all tech trees have the same basic format: two "basic" categories that are available from the beginning and three "advanced" categories available after you build their respective building. The tech tree building can only be built on one of the three special asteroids: Carbon, Silicon, and Uranium. The tech tree researches affect what ship types you have available, what weapons, etc
Construction - The commander can buy miners and constructors from the same screen as the tech tree. Constructors build their specific building where they are ordered to. Large base structures can only be built on normal asteroids, but turrets and minefields can be constructed anywhere. Buildings that can be built on asteroids include teleporters (let ships warp to that zone instantly) and multiple sizes of starbases (allow players to spawn ships there).
Ships - The game engine was able to create a fully 3D space to play in, so ships can fly around as they like. Bigger ships and better weaponry cost money, so the commander has to approve these purchases for a player who requests them. Ships can be as small as a scout to as large as a multi-turreted capital ship
That's most of what I can remember from the game, but I haven't played it in a while. I'm hoping I can find people from here that would be willing to at least try it out, maybe even bring some life back into the Allegiance community. It's still hanging on by a thread, as there is a small handful of people that still play it.

That list looks unfinished, I know. I meant to remove the 'Base Management:' part, but I waited too long to edit it.
One final thing to mention, though:
There is a single commander. He controls all the money, construction, and tech. Everyone else is just a normal member. They can request money from the commander to buy a ship, but they end up doing the majority of the fighting and scouting. Some commanders who are good enough at multi-tasking can try to fly and command at the same time.

Looks interesting I might give it a go this weekend

Let me know when you do. I can try to join you. Like I said, there aren't that many people on anymore, so it might be a bit hard to find a game.

I realize I'm double posting again, but I found out one thing:
Allegiance is having a special event next Sunday in which some of the original developers of the game will be playing a game alongside anyone who comes and joins. This will mostly likely be the most activity this game has seen for a little while, as long as people do show up. If you're interested in trying out this game, then would be a good time to play.
