    Default 2042 and core count

    My rig:
    Asus ROG STRIX B550-F
    Ryzen 5600x
    EVGA RTX 3080TI
4X8 gig Crucial Ballistic DDR4-3600 (cl 16) in DOCP mode
    Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVME
    Western Digital Blue 1TB (storage)
    1000 watt PSU
    LG 27850 (144Hz native)

My dilemma is with BF 2042. I am getting frame drops from 120FPS down to 80 fps with regularity. All settings on low. When there are a lot of explosions or just other players near by I stick on textures, and stutter horribly.
I am thinking of upgrading my CPU to a 5900x . With Christmas around the corner it is very doable. So my question is.....will more cores help to make this game smoother. Right now I have my frames locked at 100, which seems to help a bit, but far from what this hardware is capable of. I a, also aware that 144 fps in this game is not really a reality at this time. a consistent 115 to 120 fps would be nice and make the game more enjoyable. Your thoughts?

Refer to my sig below for my specs. I have zero issue getting in the 70-90 range on low with no major stuttering of FPS. The only time I experience anything annoying is the lag shot effect from the 30m cannon. I run low settings (I do this on all multiplayer games, regardless of if it can handle high settings or not). I turned on the DLSS to auto too.

One of my managers at work has mentioned he has issues playing 2042 right now, and it's tapping out his CPU too. He has a Ryzen as well, a 3750x, but he has mentioned some nasty frame drops for his system as well. I dunno that throwing more CPU at it is going to fix the problem. I would be curious to see if more are reporting this sort of issue on EA help forums.

A severe CPU bottleneck will cause stuttering tho. Not sure why but seems it caused by the gpu have large swings in clock speed due to varying load.

To OP I'd try 64 player servers and if you don't see those large dips to 80fps it likely points to CPU. Also could try dsr in nvidia control panel or render resolution in game. Cranking up resolution or render resolution will put more load on the gpu. Can also monitor CPU and GPU usage in software like msi afterburner and if you see very high usage but low usage on the gpu it points to the CPU holding you back as well.

As for your upgrade I'd wait because there's there's refresh coming out for 5000 series CPUs that will be supported on the AM4 platform with a simple bios update. Good luck. If you catch me on ts I can help you out a bit more with the monitoring stuff. I think we had a bit of a conversation about this a few days ago.

Dutchman... nice setup. Are you running Win11 on that?

Definitely. Seems pretty good once you get used to the few tweaks in layout. Anyone I know of having issues was because they upgraded instead of fresh install.

One more question Dutch: What DDR5 RAM you get for that? Or are you on the DDR4 version of that board.

Follow up. With the 5600x and a slight oc my frames were dipping from 144 down to 80 ALOT. Capped frames at 100, still got frequent drops down to 80. 5900x fps capped at 140, dips down to 131. Game plays smoother. Still get the quicksand thing when being shot by Little bird, but not nearly as bad. Got a really good deal from my local computer store so I jumped on the cpu before the refresh came out. Pretty happy how things turned out.

Have you turned on smart access memory? I've seen a lot of proof recently it helps a ton when trying to push high fps using competitive settings in competitive shooters. Seems to smooth out frametimes in a lot of games when I tested it on my 5800x as well. May help with your little bird issue.

Edit: scratch that. Forgot you're on nvidia. SAM (rebar) runs like crap on nvidia cards.
