    Default Hard drive problem

    Hello
I have an issue with my hard drive
    i have a WD Black 64mb 7200 RMP
noticed nowdays how when i play a game some textures not loading in fast enough or in sharp turns it just freezes for a half or a sec
checked everything on my pc and the cpu, ram, gpu running on half load
my hard drive is on 100% but the transfer rate is 10-20 mb/s
how can i get it to go faster?

you wont be able to get it to go faster. How old is the hard drive? I recommend especially for BF4 is get an ssd drive and run the game from there you will see great improvements. What graphics mode do you run BF4 on? I have mine turned down to medium due to my hard drive and I have the same specs. It takes me about 3-5 min to load a map when i first load bf4 up then afterwards only takes 2-3 min. I know this is because of my hard drive plus I have friends who went from 7200rpm drives to ssd drives and they noticed how much better the game runs.

You said your HD is at 100% load, but you are only getting 10-20 MB/sec. Interesting. Further you stated that when you play games that you experience textures not showing up quick enough or when turning their is a slight pause before scene becomes drawn.

I am not sure what game you are playing, but normal games load in as much as they can in RAM of the textures, audio, scripts, etc., before actually allowing you to enter the game to play. Yet you say your memory is only be half utilized.

Based on your description that your HD is showing a massive load while delivering low throughput it seems to me that the HD is either doing extensive random reads/writes constantly. This should not be normal behavior with a well functioning machine.

My guess is that your more than likely have a virus. Or you have one mighty fragmented hard drive. If I was you I would download some HD stress testing tools to verify your HD functionality (you might want to try to run these tests in safe mode as to avoid a possible virus interfering with the test results). This will tell you if your HDD really has an issue or not. I think more than likely you have a virus.

Let me know if you have questions, and what you find out. This problem can be resolved so don't worry :)

    Best of luck,
    -Matt

What kind of stress testing tool you recommend?

    I quick searched revealed:
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolso...teseatools.htm

That looks good. I think it works for harddrives other than seagate as well so no worries.

Also you may want to look at what applications are doing I/O to your harddrive during the glitches you are having in game.

    Default Hard drive problem

If you ever think you have hdd problem then do a backup on a seperate drive.

Your problem sounds more like a low RAM problem either system or on the gpu. What are your system specifications?

If you want to speed up a hdd drive then...
Set the hdd to AHCI mode in the bios. Uninstall all unnecessary programs. Move all files (pictures, videos, documents) to a seperate drive. Run drive cleanup and then defrag. Then lookup how to setup shortstroking for hdd.

Just to run some numbers an "empty" hdd will get about 150mb/s. The more it fills up, any data further in on the platters will be slower because of the reduced circumference and disc speed. What makes it worse is that the further in on the drive causes performance to degrade exponentially. So once you filled a quarter of the drive, the inner data is already half as fast 75mb/s. Then half full will bring it down to what you are experiencing 25mb/s.

You can get a fast small usb flash drive and setup windows readyboost to help speed up the hdd cache... OR just get an SSD drive!!!

If your having short freezes when turning corners and delayed/slow texture rendering/loading times thats almost certainly your Graphics card, your hard drive simply stores the game files, and affects GAME loading times(Maps, levels,ETC). I have a WD Black 500GB 7200RPM 64MB Cache(Probably the same model as yours) and used it as my primary drive for bf4 and gta5 until i got a samsung 850 evo; Map loading times where as expected, i loaded at about the same time, sometimes a little after about 60% of the other players, fast enough to get vehicles! :p

Graphics textures, Lighting, ETC are usually processed by your GPU(Graphics card); those short little freezes and delayed rendering of textures are most likely caused by an issue with your GPU(Drivers sometimes; Make sure your using the latest AMD Catalyst drivers for ATI/AMD and Nvidia's latest 2-3 drivers are VERY buggy, so just use the 3rd from newest until it gets sorted out) or the Age/Quality of the Graphics card

Like I said; It could STILL be your graphics card: I HIGHLYdoubt its your Hard drive- Your graphics card be at half load and CPU be just fine and still have driver-related issues + What kind of temp's do you get on your GPU? It could be throttling clock speeds due to excessive overheating; There are alot of more likely reasons that your getting that Issue than your HDD; Im just trying to help you man; Dont buy a new SSD/HDD unless you honestly think OR know thats the issue.
