Default Planning a budget(ish) build for the new Star Wars Battlefront

I really want to keep it sub $1k but I want to be future-proofed for Battlefront as well as possible. Looking at building it around the Radeon R9 290 card. Here's the build so far, any feedback from anyone who's done the research on Battlefront system req's? Can I expect to be able to play at reasonably high graphics detail settings with high FPS?

    Gfx: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sapphir...ard-100362vxsr

    Build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/TZ9M7P

    Thanks!

Looks like a solid start to me.

The only thing I would suggest is to check the recommended minimum system power supply the 290X suggests having. Im pretty sure it'll say 750Watts.

600W should be fine but the minimum suggested makes sure you're not damaging components when the system is under full load and potentially requiring more power than your PSU can supply.

Thanks Carts. Good suggestion. Even if 600W is enough to run this setup, I'd rather have a little headroom for future upgrades without ripping/replacing the PSU. I went with a 750W and otherwise have the build shown. It's running great and I'm getting consistent 60fps in BF4 at Ultra settings.

Ready to drop some Start Wars onto this... now to wait some more. Anyone know how to get into Beta with EA?

I wouldnt go with any AMD Vishera-based processor, They run EXTREMELY hot, secondly: Where they multi-threaded performance is great, their single-core/thread performance(Performance per core) is terrible, the most expensive intel core i3 Haswell-based processors will decimate ALL of AMD's 6-core, and *most* 8 core CPU's, except for the 200W+ TDP AMD Processors, but those arent even something I'd buy or recommend, you think this Processor would run hot(Which it will, people that run 2x120mm Corsair/NZXT/Thermaltake/Artic/Fractal design watercooling[Closed loop, of course] Have had it overheat on them within 10minutes of heavy usage), those things are toaster ovens.

    * Even though alot of people think their paying a massive price premium for Intel Processors you DONT, their single-threaded(and multi-threaded, its just they dont come with as many cores and threads as AMD CPU's do, mainly because, like I said, they have great performance-per-core) performance will benefit you a whole lot more in gaming workloads.

Now if you do Video Rendering, SolidWorks, light CUDA Developement: Then the AMD 8-Cores are great, because most of those applications are able and WILL take advantage/use all of your 8-Cores. Whereas most games will work(pragmatically) with 2-4 Cores, Alot of them aren't programmed well to take advantage of multi-threaded/parallel processing workloads, IE More cores.

On your budget, assuming sub $1k is around $600-$850(Give or take), you made a good choice with the cooler(Hyper 212+ Evo), RAM/Memory(Although 16GB is a *little* unnecessary, its good to have), CASE, and SSD(**Although, I recommend getting 1 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD + 1 Western Digital Black 2TB, which is $100 (Give or take $20-$25) Less than that single 500GB 850 EVO, and 250GB is enough for 3-5 Big games, and that 500GB if used as a boot drive is -20GB+ right away, then all your basic essential applications, then ALL of your downloads online, temporary file storage, is going to fill up that drive quick, thats why I recommend always using a SSD+HDD combo, SSD For your boot drive and games, and HDD for everything else. You should really consider it.

    HDD Link/URL: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-624-_-Product $122 USD

    SSD Link/URL: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-372-_-Product $99 USD

    Total: $221 USD

Graphics card is one thing I saw room for improvement at the same price point, you know that AMD's R9 300-series cards have been released right? The R9 390(Referance, that doesnt include any factory overclocks and aftermarket coolers by manufacturer's) has DOUBLE the VRAM at 8GB than the R9 290X, Has a 1000MHz higher Memory Clock speed, +285MHz GPU Clock Speed, and a 25W Lower TDP, ALL AT THE SAME PRICE(Depending on where you buy it) as the 290X you where thinking about. Here is the one I recommend:

    Link/URL: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0-_-14-131-672 $329.99 USD

    * The money you would save on getting a 250GB SSD + WD Black 2TB HDD you could gap the small (looking at the price of it on superbiz on your pcpartpicker link, the r9 290x) $22 to get all the benefits above, which are substantial.

You would still have $70 Or so to spend an additional fan for your CM Hyper 212+, 2-3 Case fans, A Keyboard/Mouse (Unless you already have them), ETC.

Clamer, i had that exact setup, i would consider changing the mobo. That cooler is BOSS and can really push that CPU but the mobo bottlenecks it. Don't get me wrong it's a very good build but that mobo Will restrict you.

Agreed with above comment that 16gb RAM is unnecessary. I've been building gaming PC's for 8 years now and i've never used more than 8Gb. Vid editing/rendering etc (and i mean on large scale) is the only reason to go 16gb atm. Save some money and stick with 8gb my friend

A motherboard wont bottleneck anything, Its the components attached/connected to the MB that can get potentially bottlenecked; I think what your trying to say is due to the TDP of the Processor, the amount of heat it produces, and its Power requirements will not perform as well as say, an MSI 970/990 MB w/ 8+ Power Phases for smooth and efficient power delivery to the CPU; I wouldnt go with AMD if I were you, like I said; One thing you might want to know: the AMD SB950 Chipset is over 7+ Years OLD!

EDIT: I didnt say 16GB was unnecessary, i said for "Gaming right now" purposes its a little bit much, but with future proofing in consideration its not a 'bad' idea to get 16GB while their relatively cheap, Prices can change in a day, remember when that flood in Thailand shot up mechanical HDD prices to ridiculous prices?
