    Default Budget build

So i am going to upgrade after many years...its time to put the old girl out to pasture soon. I am currently running an old Alienware rig...E8400 duo core, 8 Gigs ram, GTX 660ti. The GTX isnt a bad card and has kept me playing at 30-70 fps on a good day. I am wanting to replace the Mobo and cpu, i was looking at a few options. I Dont want ot spend alot.

    Any thoughts???

My currently PS isnt an issue as its a 1000w and overclocking isnt a priority nor is SLI/crossfire.

    Thanks in advance

+1 On Flint, i5-4460 is a great i5 SKU, Only thing Im seeing is the board runs the H97 Chipset, their are comprable Z97 boards at that price range that would serve you much better than an H97 Board-

Any thoughts on the FX8320? it has a much better price point from everything i see, i understand that sometimes that isnt the way to go. most of the info im finding just goes back and forth between Intel and AMD.

Any AMD Processors are a no-go at this point; The SB950 Chipset is over 6+ Years old, and even their "latest" Vishera-based Processors are Almost 3 years old; The reason they have more cores/Threads on-die is because they have to compensate for their poor IPC(Instruction Per Clock) [At least thats one reason]

I'd stick w/ Intel either route you go.

I would second avoiding AMD, as having used AMD/ATI for years even I am trying to save the pennies to switch to intel chips, AMD just have no potential in gaming, and need to bring their "game" up to intel's par.

The standard go to for gamers at the moment is the 4690k (but that is for OC-ing) not sure what the non-oc variant go to is. As for Mobo's as Grady says the z97 chipset is the one really to get, as the chip tends to be a set price, the rest of your desired budget can be put towards getting a mobo that does what you want, but getting extra features you simply will not use is never worth it (I always used to do it, "just-in-case", which 98% of the time means never)

I don't know how much you want to spend - but if you are looking for a whole rig, keep an eye on Woot.com. I picked this up and added a better vid card: http://computers.woot.com/offers/hp-...6ghz-desktop-3
