    America 9/11

We all know what happened 14yrs ago. Over 3k people died in a terrorist attack plotted and peformed by cowards in the name of nationalism and religion. The same things that start most wars. We all know what happened afterwards..however,it is the personal stories that tell the truth of 9/11 and Americans response.

NYPD officer J.Leahy responded to "all-hands' call at WTC shortly after first tower hit. He was on foot, and was offered a bicycle by a bike messenger who heard His radio call. He took the bicycle, and arrived in time to be below the second tower when the second plane hit. He avoided that debris, and immediately mounted the indoor plaza,to direct survivors/escapee's outdoors. Upon first tower falling,He took refuge in the indoor plaza, and then continued to direct people to safety, including helping a partially disabled person make it outside, down the stairs. Upon turning, returning to the indoors,The officer was struck by a body, having jumped from the burning floors above, killing both instantly. This was witnessed by victims who survived, though only the officers badge, duty belt and accoutrement,as well as bone fragments were found.

NYPD officer J.Leahy was a cousin of mine and deserving,as are the rest of the victims,of honor and dignity on this day. Raise a toast, say a prayer, flip the bird in Osama's general direction.

RIP NYPD Officer J.Leahy. You did good Son,DAMN Good

I still remember everything I was doing when that happened. I was in the fifth grade and had just finished breakfast and was watching TV while I waited on my mom to drive me to school. The news was reported about the first plane hitting, and I watched as the second flew in and hit the other tower, I couldn't believe it. Being the young kid I was I ran to the other room to tell her and at first she didn't believe me til she came and watched the replay of it while I pointed out the first tower was already burning so it had to be a second one. We called my father who was air force and he even was shocked and hadn't heard anything to I went to school only to go home early that day. Years later in boot camp my division we had messed up and we're taken back to the ships compartment. There were stood at attention and they put on a video on 9/11 with a little girl talking about the lose of her dad that day. But just watching that scene over again and with that little girl broke most of us as most of us had tears peaking out at the corners of our eyes. It was then we knew the full purpose of why we had to learn this stuff which in boot camp seemed insignificant, because we are in a time were everyone had a job and one failure with any job affected all of us. Even to this day it's a reminder of how much we care about each other, but also unite us.

Something You said registered with Me,and funny enough,it isn't the kid.Though that is a serious boot-camp D.I. right there. That D.I. instilled in You the knowledge that You are a TEAM,and NO ONE MAN can or will make/break the battlefield. One Man's actions may be seen by all,but it is the Men/Women whom first handed Him/Her the pen to sign on the dotted line, right up to the Sgt. chewing that ass previous morning for a shitty rucksack pack, who are responsbile for THAT action, seen by all. Medal winners know those aren't THEIR medals they're wearing. They were only granted the right/permission to show them to the Public in recognition of those before them, whom performed above/beyond the call of duty. If there is NOTHING else boot taught You,THAT lesson was well learned and will keep Your ass alive when the Merde hits the Ventilateur... *ask a french guy for translation*. Why do I register on this?Cause it kept MY ass alive, many times w/lead in the air and a smell of fear rife on the breeze. Not panicking..that's for later when shaking doesn't effect Your aim. You KNOW the Guy to left/right know and will do their job without hesitation,as they know You will do Yours. Not for "Murica,Freedom,God,or even apple pie...but for that Man to their left/right. TEAMFUCKINGWORK will keep You alive,in many situations. I'm glad they still teach that Don. I'm glad the memories You have of 9/11 are that of child knowing something very wrong is happening, but insulated enough by Your parents not to be a scarring memory, just a memory unpleasant as it is. I don't know any strangers, just friends that don't know how awesome I am yet. That's most Americans, and by and large,Homo Sapiens. We only learn fear/anger/resentment.At our cores,We're a pretty decent species,if a bit self-centered.

I remember that day Rubble. Being a former Firefighter it hit directly to my heart. 14 years ago I was in the station in R.I. when the news came on the T.V. All the guys in the firehouse were watching with their eyes glued not be able to look away. We were in utter shock. When the first plane hit, we knew that the N.Y. Fire departments and all available Police would respond. What we didn't know was that the Towers would fall because of the planes hitting them and as we watched the towers collapse, all our hearts sank. We knew there were people in those buildings. We knew that Firefighters, OUR brothers were in the building and we knew that no one could possibly survive that. The moment those towers fell, there was not a dry eye in that fire house. We lost a lot of brothers because cowards attacked us. Everyone in that Firehouse took a trip together to that site. We all stood shoulder to shoulder. We all laid flowers down and we all hugged each other. Remembering those gave gave the ultimate sacrifice for doing what they loved to do. They will ALWAYS be remembered.

I was working as a Corrections Officer in Maine at the time. I had worked an overnight shift and gotten home just as the first plane hit. Oddly the next memory I have is of my Lt asking all the the C.O.'s that were also reservists if they had any contact with their units about call ups. Having had completed my obligated time with the Marine Corps and separating earlier in that year he asked me as well. As it was, I had just found out my first child was on the way and thus signed up with the Coast Guard a few weeks prior.
Reported to USCG Sept 25th, 2001 after being delayed due to the air traffic freeze.
Seems so weird that it was 14 years ago.
Seemed more surreal that day though.

my post is a few days late and though I'm not old enough to remember that horrible day my parents have told me what happened to me. they did send me to school but had to turn around pick my autistic brother and me from school (god thank cartoon network) so they sat him down in front of the tv and he watched cartoon network. my mother was in tears and my dad was on duty (police officer) on that day and i stayed with her following her around trying to comfort her. to this day have not forgive those cowards and won't a few years later at the grand age of 5ish i decided to join the military and i still am because i love this country and i love these people (more or less nowadays) and by gods will i will defend it as best as me and a plane (or drone) can. god rest all those souls lost on that day. when i come of age to apply to be a pilot in the USAF.
