Does anyone know why gaijin has such a disparity between BR and Tier? And how is it that if Im maxed in a 5.7 match im seeing Ferdys and 105 tigers?

In tanks it is because they just condensed the top of the tree, it used to be far better. due to the +/-1 mechanic you will see up to 6.7's. It does not get any better, taking tiger 2's out & you see russian t10-m which is just fecking stupid

Just realised I didnt answer your question; sorry!
The tiers follow more along the lines of historical time lines & the development of that type of tank, the BR is GJ's internal attempt at creating a fair "balance" . The top tiers have gotten worse from the above issue. As your max tank is 5.7 then it will use 5.7 as your BR, it does not average them out unlike planes
