So I decided that since today was Cyber Monday and it is my birthday on Friday that it was time to finally bit the bullet and get a quad core replacement for my Pentium G3258. This processor has served me very well for just over the past year, but with newer games wanting a quad core, I felt it was time to upgrade to a Core i5-4460. The best part is it will arrive before my birthday thanks to Amazon Prime shipping. :) Now, I have never replaced JUST a processor in a regular machine before, I have always replaced the motherboard at the same time. I have replaced one in servers and just did a full backup/restore cycle then. Should I do that as well, or just backup (just in case), swap processors, restart normally? I would hate to waste the time and effort to initiate a restore operation on this machine if it wouldn't be needed, but at the same time, I don't want to waste the time and headache of not doing on and having problems because of it. Thoughts?
