Hi all,
The company that I'm part of has over 200 offices nation wide. Currently going through some guidelines that the big wigs set moving forward to have a way of tracking where all of our desktops, laptops, and tablets are located. Currently we use a system of AD-XXXX-WS-01 / AD-XXXX-LP-01 / AD-XXXX-SF-01

AD- Company Owned Device
XXXX- Location Code, ORL = Orlando / VEN = Venice
WS- Workstation, LP- Laptop, SF- Surface Books

We are growing at such a rate that we can't name offices any long by city due to having multiple offices in that said city. The practice that we are thinking of implementing is assigning a 4 digit office code, that will match up with our private ip range for that office and their office phone extension. This will allow us to have everything for that office in our MLPS and tracking software to be matched. We will know that AD-0033-WS-01 is a workstation at the office with a #0033 phone extension and an IP range of 10.033.x.x - 10.033.x.x.

That makes perfect sense and works out well, Now here is the wrench. Many of the Doctors have laptops or surface books that they take from office to office in their area. I proposed that we label them under the "home office" they are part of and assign that device that 4-digit code. But this will give an extra count to a certain office that may or may not be true, depending if that employee travels or not.

Does anyone have any better ideas on how to track devices that are moving from location to location for providers, nurses, and location managers?
