I have always wanted to build my own system. After many hours on YouTube, Newegg, and Amazon I was able to build my own rig for far less than the price of a complete pre-built system. I ordered a few components at a time depending on sales and discounted items.
It took a fewmonths to buy all the components and several days for a noob builder like myself to painstakingly construct my new weapon of choice. It is not an SLI setup, but the GTX Matrix handles everything as the primary card.
If you are planning on building a rig, I did notice that components that were a few months older are discounted an the price/performance is drastically lower than purchasing the newest, most advanced items. I decided to go with the Z87 platform, because it is still a very strong
and reasonably priced platform vs. X99 and newer. Triple SLI configurations and Top tier CPUs are nice, but you can get excellent value if you do your research. For instance, a top tier GPU might cost up to 30% more for maybe 1-8% fps gain. I did splurge on a few components
since I believe in buying nice, or buying twice. If you plan on building your own rig, do it! It is so rewarding in more ways than one!
