    Awesome! Congrats haha..

I'm also thinking of getting a new monitor soon, just not sure if I should get a 144hz or ultrawide 100hz!

I wouldn't mind my main monitor being a 35" Curved 144hz monitor .. but 1000$ dollars on a monitor is hard when i'm still rocking the ddr3

I cannot second this thread enough :)

I had been on the fence about what monitor to get with my new build. I had to go into the store (Micro Center) to actually see if there was a way to test in person vs. reading reviews, etc...

Unfortunately, and this is something Micro Center needs to consider, the few 144Hz monitors that they had were just hooked up to a standard PC and not doing anything to truly showcase the capabilities of a 144Hz display.

While I'm a major nVIDIA "fanboi" (currently running a GTX 980 Ti), I ended up buying the AMD version of the Asus 144Hz display (MG279Q). The use of AMD Freesync or nVIDIA G-Sync won't matter all that much when your rig can consistently push enough FPS to keep up with the refresh rate. In this case, with my new build, I've never had an issue keeping up with always running at 144Hz.

Like you, I'm NEVER going back :)

When I bought that first Asus 144Hz monitor, it replaced one of my 24" LC 1080p (60Hz) monitors, so it left me with the new one and then one of the other "inferior" monitors (heh). It wasn't too long before I ended up buying a second MG279Q to replace it because once I saw how good the new one looked, it was extremely tough going back and forth between the Asus and the LG.

One thing I believe that's better when comparing the Freesync model displays vs. the G-Sync model displays (at least, from what I can tell with Asus) is that the Freesync variants leverage IPS panels vs. the TN panel. The TN panels have a better response time (1ms vs. the IPS 4ms) but the color range on an IPS panel is amazing. That, and of course, the cost difference.

I'm going to be working on "Phase II" of my build later this year once the new Intel Broadwell-E chips and nVIDIA Pascal cards come out, and depending on what I go with, may look at getting a third 27" LCD. Will have to re-think my desk design and such if I do that, though, and probably go with two of the new cards for SLI. If I get the third monitor, I might pick a G-Sync model just to compare.

One thing I'm still playing around with is how much of a difference I can see between running 144Hz or 120Hz. So far, can't tell a difference, other than what it does to the load on my GPU.

I love mine. Though I did recently accidentially scratch the screen. So, sooner or later I need to go 144Hz GSync.

My only problem with 144Hz screens is that you're going to *have* to keep your graphic card updated all the time (or lower the graphics of the game).
Either you have to upgrade your card every few years or add another one (SLI).

But you're right, I've never seem 144Hz in my own eyes - but this would be the only drawback for me.

Splurging $300 every 2 years, is totally worth the enhanced gameplay you get from 144Hz. I was more of a 'resolution' guy, until AOD_Hammie talked me into getting the 144Hz w/ GSync Monitor, and I don't think I've thanked him enough for it ;)

    This x1000!

When I made the jump to 144hz gaming, it reminded me of the last time my mind was completely blown in regards to PC gaming - in 1998 when I installed my first Monster 3D II card :)

Wow. So high refresh really does make that much of a difference..

I messed around a 144/165hz screen at my local Microcenter that was hooked up to a gaming pc. It might have just been the setting I was in, or the game, or something, but it was hard for me to tell completely. I just tested it out on a couple games that were installed, I think one was a racing game and the other was Tomb Raider. Maybe I was just in awe of the overall screen haha.

Now I just need to figure out if there's a big difference between 100hz and 165hz. That could help determine whether I get an ultrawide or not.

Heh, so, when I exchanged / upgraded one of my monitors last week at Micro Center (one of my two Asus MG279Qs) for the G-Sync variant (the Asus PG278Q), they didn't have the PG279Q in stock.

I suppose they didn't really expect me to take them up on the offer to come back again whenever I saw that they had the PG279Q in stock and upgrade and pay the difference (yet again) :)

So, yeah...happened to look online today and they had 5 in stock, so......

I told the lady working the exchanges / returns that this was definitely it for a while. She gave me that look that said she didn't believe me... ;)

    The PG278Q was bad ass...but this thing...is God-like.

165hz refresh rate and an IPS panel vs. the TN of the PG278Q. Response time to match the TN and the color depth of IPS = absolutely perfect.
