    Default Carbine vs regular weapon

One of my other friends uses carbines for like every gun they have, I was just wondering if there are more people that only use them. I kinda like the regular engineer gun or recon

They've grown on me, Since they're usable on all classes. Especially the M4, ACE 52 CQB, And SG553.

Carbines are great guns for all classes. But Assault Rifles do beat them most of the time.
My favorite Carbine is the AK5C.

The MTAR-21 has quickly become my go-to weapon. I still love the f2000 and will use it in situations when I know I won't have a need to deal with vehicles, but I almost always go engineer/MTAR otherwise (unless I'm in a mood to go sniping).

Personally I use the G36C. Love it, top 2% with it according to bf4stats.com

Carbines are a niche weapon. For the most part an Assault Rifle will out-class it. But they hit harder than a PDW. So, they are great for Engineers. They also reach further than Shotguns, so for Recon if you still want a bit of range, but fully automatic, then use a Carbine. For Support, they are better for quick CQC kills, compared to an LMG, as the CoF of a Carbine is much tighter than a LMG. But, for Assault I rarely use a Carbine, AR's are much more effective.

I use carbines only myself, im more of a run and gun type player so they tend to be more effective then AR..etc.. The advice I can give you if you go this route is when you are in bigger maps with more open terran I tend to put my carbine on single shot and just start tap popping. but other then that you can be very successful using carbine openly, especially if it matches you game play. All the best

Also, when it comes to carbines, and any other weapon really, practice and the loadout will make a HUGE difference. Personally, I use the G36C with heavy barrel, target detector, 2x FLIR, and ergo grip. I sometimes switch to a suppressor for night modes, but more often than not I just use the loadout above. Practice and loadout makes all the difference. And personal play style, of course.

Carbines as a whole are excellent - there's a lot of versatility to be found in the carbine weapon category. Stable mid-range weapons like the AK-5C and the ACE 52 CQB can be used to supplement Engineer and Recon play and make them more reliable shooters, while the MTAR-21, with its close-but-not-quite PDW characteristics can be run on any class that's playing aggressively (Support with a XM25 DART, Recon with pokeballs). I'm not somebody who runs them exclusively like your friend does, but I do use them a fair amount. Sure, they'll never supplant assault rifles from their throne (And for good reason), but they're in a good place. If you find yourself engaging frequently at 25m+, I'd swap out a PDW for a carbine and pack a G18 as an Engineer for when you're caught in CQC or mid-reload.
