Confirmed - 1080 is faster than 980 in SLI.

1080 is even faster than the Titan X.

    "Irresponsible amounts of performance" :)

I'm in the same boat :)

I'm willing to think the 980 Ti can still sell pretty nicely because there will be folks holding out for the 1080 Ti and will want to maybe go 980 Ti SLI in the meantime.

I'm guessing we're about a year or so out from the 1080 Ti & Titan variants (GTC 2017 most likely).

The 2X increase is only in VR, I think. In non-VR it's something like 20~30%, IIRC.

I'm probably going to hold out, may even wait and build a brand new computer...and spend another 2.5k

I just spent a bit over $4,500 on my build that I completed in January, all with the intention to drop another $2,500 or so by the end of the year (for new Pascal cards and when Broadwell-E launches). So, yeah, know the feeling :)

That's about what I've spent so far, not sure how much more I'm going to drop though

The biggest decision I'm going to have to make is that whether or not I want to go SLI with two 1080s. The fact that I wouldn't have to upgrade my PSU as well is a huge plus. The 980 Ti (my current card) draws 250 watts. The 1080 only draws 180 watts.

Two 1080s in SLI, each at 2x performance of the Titan X, and them both running at the power consumption level of a little more than a single 980 Ti. Absolutely insane.

We will see the 1080 Ti around this time next year I would guess, so that would be the other factor in deciding to go SLI now or not, or just wait until the 1080 Ti is released. Betting it will be a 16 GB card....nom nom nom :)

Got a point, if anything you could buy one now and then wait and see about the Ti

I bought my 980Tis back in september 2015 so i think im gonna wait for the 1080Ti and use that to push 4k at 120hz, since these cards have DP 1.4 :p
or maybe two if im feeling particularly rich :')
its only 2x performance of titan x in VR, in normal games its about 20% faster (which is still fricken awesome)
and its clocked at 2.1GHz on a FREAKING STOCK AIR COOLER AT 67 DEGREES C

A single 1080 is 2x the performance of a single Titan X...period. As well as at 3x the power efficiency (wattage draw and heat output). Also, for those demos the other night, they used the $699 Founders Edition, which has the higher clocks. But, it's not like the stock 1080 won't be just fine :)

I'm going to start with a single 1080 at launch then MAYBE go SLI. Still not sure (since it'll be about a year or so until the Ti and / or Titan models come out).

I think that in order to push an experience that's consistent and enjoyable at 4K / 120Hz, will probably require SLI 1080 Ti. Can only speculate at this point, however, until we see some initial benchmarks and quality comparisons (thinking very soon with 1080 launch just a couple of weeks away).

That...and the only monitor that's capable of even doing 4K at 120Hz is the Dell UltraSharp 30 (UP3017Q)...and it's a mere $5,000 ;) Yes, I'm sure we'll see plenty more come out over the next year, but if I'm still paying over $800 for one of my monitors that does 1440p (2K) at 144 / 165Hz, then man, we're a WAYS off from mainstream 4K variants ;)

Hmmm... there are a few graphs online which show the performance of a 1080 compared to a titan x in VR, rise of the tomb raider, and witcher 3, in witcher 3 and tomb raider its about 60-70%, in vr it is double :P
but we will see iguess :')

Going to as well. I'm sitting on dual 980's. Going to wait for the 11xx or 12xx series before I get upgraded again. Running BF4 in Ultra at 150-200fps

Yea but BF1 may only run High 100 FPS or Ultra 60 on Twin 980's. Getting a 1070 would be useful for the bonus VRAM at the minimum. Since with SLI you still only have 4 GB of VRAM from your 980's. You could use one of the 980's for a PhysX GPU, or sell them and run Twin 1070's!
