    Default Gtx 1080 compatibility

So after a few talks with some friends the question kept coming up if gtx 1080would be 2.0pcie compatible or not with such a huge jump in technology. The answer is yes even though its not wildly talked about in forums yet so to avoid you the 24 to 48 hour wait on a responce from nvida cust rep i thought id share if anyone was wondering.

But... Who doesn't have a PCI-e 3.0 slot on their motherboard nowadays?

Lol A LOT of gamers still habe mobos with 2.0 when i built my pc it was top of the line with a gtx580, then when gtx 780tis came out i run 2 in sli and i still play every game out on ultra settings at 2560x1080. Only now with this new gtx1080 and the new ddr4 rams do i see it being worth spending the money to upgrade to anything better. Mobos and cpus are way more resilient than gpus are as far as future proofing.

But the reason i wanted to know about the 2.0 is im buyingthe gtx1080 on the 27th but not going to build a whole new system for a few months, its the middle of riding season and i cant spend to much on hobbies so gotta spread em out.

I wouldn't have a 3.0 slot if a buddy didn't give me my current rig as a gift. At the same time, if youre only running a single card, i havent seen any proof of difference between v2 and v3. Many many gamers out there are running on a single card and cant afford a SLI or crossfire setup, we can only daydream and drool :(

Almost all single cards wont see a huge different in PCI-e channels, PCIe 3.0 x4 give 95% performance on a gtx 980
