Default Is upgrade to windows 10 worth the hassle?

The free windows 10 upgrade ends in a few months. I have been waiting for them to get the bugs out before upgrading. My questions is for those that have upgraded:

Have you had any problems with War Thunder and windows 10?

Would you recommend windows 10 or stick with your old windows?

    Thanks and good hunting!

Stick to whatever you had. Win10 is full of security holes. Some people have also reported it affecting their games in odd ways.

Agreed. Win 10 is buggy. It doesn't seem to have affected my game, of course it's hard to tell 'cause I still suck at it.
The graphics are cheesy, the default program settings keep changing, if you want to create other user accounts on the same computer
you have to have a email address and you must use a password, unlike before where my wife and I could switch back and forth without one. (we trust each other)
They have completely broken Windows Media Player. It won't play DVD's from the drive or Video_TS files on your computer. Mpeg2 files and all of the .avi files from my Fraps days play as audio only.
The Pro version does come with a separate DVD player, but it sucks.
I had to go with a third party media player. I settled on Leawo Blu-Ray. It plays everything, it's free and best of all doesn't have any adware like most of the free apps do.
I didn't upgrade from Win 7. I had a virus that fucked up the OS so I bought a new hard drive and did a clean install of Win 10/64. If I want to go back to 7, I will have to buy the disc because my old
one was 32 bit and I've gotten spoiled to using all 16 gigs of ram. Over all I'm not happy and will probably go back to 7 with 64 bits.
I believe the cut off date for the free upgrade is July 29. You can try it, but I don't think you'll like it. Cheers

Since the 9X series MS has got the habit to fuck up every second version. 98 - good, ME - meh, XP - good, Vista -meh, 7 - good, 8 - meh, 9 - skipped, 10 - meh.

I'll probably wait with a migration until support of windows 7 runs out (either by MS or by applications I really care about). I like 7 and don't see any reason to migrate already.
On the other hand I don't trust this entire free migration thingy. As a WT player one should be well aware that companies who label their product as "free" still want to take your money at the end of the day. In that regard I'm fairly concerned about some more recent windows 10 developments, like
    - Pestering their users with adds ( http://www.theverge.com/2016/5/16/11...versary-update ) - IMHO an OS is supposed to be a platform which reliably and efficiently run applications and it should be designed to be as little intrusive as possible while doing so. Spamming adds into the users face is insanely intrusive.
    - Introduction of new restrictions for the "free" windows 10 versions which 'encourage' the user to migrate to a more expensive variants (http://www.zdnet.com/article/microso...indows-10-pro/)
    - More and more aggressive marketing of Windows 10 (http://news.softpedia.com/news/micro...t-504095.shtml).

For now I'll definitely stay clear of Windows 10 and will continue to monitor how it evolves. Unfortunately I can't say I like where it seems to be headed.

    I would not upgrade.
Suddenly when ingame your PC just restarts cause of some update without any notifications beforehand.
Even had an RAM-leak issue on my PC where just idling on the Desktop made up 95% usage of my 16GB Corsair RAM and therefore it was impossible for me to play.
Sometimes it just freaks out and in one point even it made my Accounts temporary.
Added to the fact its buggy like **** and sends all Data to Microsoft.

I really recommend DO NOT UPGRADE atm!

If it is fixed and the Security holes are fixed aswell it might be worth for gaming due to DirectX12 support, which earlier versions of Windows dont provide.

I pulled the trigger, and it's been good for me so far. It even cleared up a few problems I was having with Windows 8.1 and is running slightly faster.

If you're having memory problems with windows 10, check here: http://www.clanaod.net/forums/showthread.php?t=134761

And I ran this program to turn off the spying: https://www.safer-networking.org/spybot-anti-beacon/

The only issue I've personally come across is that for some reason, the Windows Notification Sound files are played at max volume, and other than turning them off, I can't seem to fix it.

Doing the upgrade to Win10 will allow you to use your current version's key for future installations, but if you don't do it before 7-29, you'll have to pay at least $120 to get Win10 if you need it for some reason in the future. Keep in mind that doing the upgrade doesn't mean your older OS key will no longer work, so if you upgraded and don't like it, you could always reinstall the old one.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't need a Microsoft Live account to use the computer; you can skip all that stuff and simply use a local account like before, but you'll have to carefully read the post-installation text for the small links that let you skip it.

The issue with DVD playback is definitely a problem, though. Microsoft hasn't included the DVD codec after Win7, so you'll need a 3rd party media player, but WMP has always been trash, IMO. Something like MPV, VLC player, or UMPlayer would be a very good replacement.

also using explorer again is possible but explorer runs very slow in win 10

for the rest win 10 works fine for me and it runs WT without problems or issues
it runs faster then win 7 did on my pc

If your on 7 I'd say stick with 7.

If your on 8 I'd say upgrade as 10 as I think 8 is total garbage and 10 is a little bit better.

Upgraded from 7 to 10 and after the first month I've had almost zero issues. It's still Windows, but it's not the worst they've done.

Yeah, I upgraded to windows 10 and at the sametime I did as a new installation on a SSD, ummm yeah they are cheaper than they've ever been just do yourself a favor and get one for your primary os drive you'll thank me for it. Also after the initial hiccups i had being that i have older mobo and cpu hardware the generic drivers it tried to get to push to my hardware was kinda messy at first but still usable. They've patched almost all that out for me, so really I love windows 10 as it stands now. Don't fret you can upgrade just to get the windows 10 key copy said key then downgrade again ... i think if you have windows 8 or 8.1 i dunno if you can do a straight downgrade again from windows 7. Its ok, as someone who built his own machines and have sold computers off and on for years now windows 10 is fine its not so scary, just jump in water's fine.

The nicest thing I can say (so far) about Windows 10 is that restoring back to Windows 7 after I figured out I did not like 10 was a breeze!

I 'upgraded' to W10 last week, running businesses from this machine means I need to keep it current so I can use the latest software and so I felt I had too. The first 3 day's was a pain, Microsoft think they know everything and try to replace your proprietary drivers with their generics for many bits of hardware without even asking you for permission - and in some cases objects to you wanting to put your own drivers back on. However; having a 900 Gb SSd OS only primary, partitioned for Windows and Linux mint, and a separate 5 Tb hybrid data secondary seems to be fine. I can even easily tell windows that I don't want it to put anything other than the essential OS components on the primary drive with just a few simple clicks.

Start-up, speed of this depends on how many Microsoft accounts the computer is connected too - even if you only log into one of them at a time all are loaded into the swap file for quick access which slows the boot up process. And I see no point in the so called 'lock screen'.

As to WT, my only issue was I had to redefine my controller settings - I have a Saitek X52 and the file I had saved with the settings seemed to be chewed up in some way. But WT is running just fine, as are all my other games. I do like the access direct to my Xbox stuff as well.

And for my businesses the virtual integration of Office365 is great.

I think the longer you wait for the upgrade the more bugs have been ironed out, but I have noticed as others have said that whenever you get an update your app settings seem to 'reset to a different set of defaults' some how.
