    Default New Rig

I thinking about a new rig because one I have right now is a turd. I made a list of what components I might want. Thoughts or changes? I will be running more CPU intensive games and I WANT air cooling

I'd really recommend a solid state drive, if you need the 2tb for storage keep that but a SSD or an M.2 SSD ( if board capable) will greatly improve load times all around. BF4 on a HDD takes well over a minute and a half on a hdd, subtract a minute and you have SSD speed. (For reference) Other than that you can't go wrong with what you've chosen.

Not to mention with a newer-gen M.2 SSD you get greater than 1000Mbps read/write speeds (compared to around 500 tops on SATA SSDs). My own gets 1500Mbps read, 1200Mbps write. Going from memory, and the IOPS is much higher as well. When I had BF4 on my M.2 map loading was done in less than 10 seconds, it was insane. However with a 256GB M.2 and BF4 taking up around 70GB of space I moved it onto a SATA SSD.

I haven't touched a SSD before because I really didn't need but does it do anything else besides faster boot up time and faster application loading?

Just a better overall experience, I heard you wouldn't go back once you got one and I haven't except for mass storage which is becoming less relevant depending on how much you actually need.

I've been using SSD since 2011 and never ever ever went back to HDD as a System drive... ew ew ew HDD for system is the worst thing you can have nowadays. You can have NASA Super Computer but if the main system drive is HDD then you loose full potential of that system. SSD literally boosts up your system performance 5 to 10 times. As for gaming, No FPS improvement but you get much smoother game-play and faster loading times.

Haha, for BF4 that is so true. In Metro, I'm already at B while others are still loading :-)

    How is a Sandisk Z400s 128GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive or a Sandisk Z400s 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive?

If your not gunna water cool the CPU, might wanna max out the fans the case can handle, and a fan controller might be helpful.

And if you can afford it, get a GTX 1070 or 1080 (also don't bother with the 1060) instead of a Radeon, especially since you are in PS2.

PS2 is a CPU intensive game so a good GPU would be not the best if you are on a budget of around
    $1200 USD

Hm. Not the best, but certainly price wise for performance they are excellent.

The best in terms of SATA SSD. Obviously NVMe is better.
