    Woot So, Navy Hype! What do you guys think?

    Not quite sure if I will quit playing World of Warships to do this, guess it will depend on how many ships/what types they add into game as well as how the gameplay will be. Also worth mentioning they brought Japanese tanks to Gamescom, and the trailer showed the Bismark. Will Gaijin do what they have been doing, sticking to vehicles built (with a few that were almost built/prototypes) or are they going to use some paper designs to fill gaps?

    "Question: Will larger ships (cruisers, battleships, aircraft carriers) be available for player control? If not - why do we need torpedos?

    ​Larger vessels, while not available for control by players, but will be presented under the control of AI in some game modes. One of the main tasks of combat torpedo boats will be the destruction of larger ships. Player-controlled destroyers and other large ships may appear later, in other gamemodes, it will be decided based on results of closed beta."

    And I love how they have a choice of either a pt boat or something with guns. We really should be allowed to use the larger ships.

    If you read the Q&A on their devblog: http://warthunder.com/en/news/4185-n...-this-year-en/ They talk about how in their initial testing, with the large ships implemented realistically, it wasn't fun at all. However, during the closed beta they want to see how it could be implemented while staying realistic (btw love how they poke at Wargaming, not just in this one) Regarding the Jap tanks at Gamescom, I theorize that they might not be necessarily be adding them into GF, but perhaps as part of the Naval mode with tanks defending and attacking islands. Seeing as modders have implemented infantry into missions, I imagine that we could see landing craft launch infantry (POSSIBLY PLAYER CONTROLED?!) onto islands, and player controlled aircraft can launch from AI Carriers. There's certainly a lot of potential, but we need to voice feedback to Gaijin if any of this will come to fruition. I would imagine that they might be trying to downplay larger ships so that they can announce them later on, rather then announce everything at once. I think some people who talk about how great BBs are and they need to be added haven't played BBs in WoWS, or haven't read up on it. Historically speaking, the BB never came to the prominence it was believed to be in WW2. Aircraft Carriers became the most important ship, and BBs (at least the American ones) were left with escort and costal bombardment. Personally, I would much rather see Battlecruisers then see Battleships.

    Battleships fell to the way side of faster ships with more range (like the aircraft carrier and its planes) for the same reason as Heavy Tanks like the Tiger 2 or IS3 fell to the way side of medium tanks / main battle tanks. Basically because you couldn't control when and where you met the enemy on the battlefield. And in this case, the battlefield was the gigantic Pacific Ocean.


    But in a War Thunder scenario, where two forces square off against each other on a relatively small battlefield, much like the heavy tank, the battleship will flourish.

    By the way, Battleships were quite fast, and reasonably maneuverable, too. At lot better than you'd think. World of Warships has artificially lowered (nerfed) their speed and maneuverability in order to create a rock-paper-scissors gameplay type.

    They could implement atleast CL & CA classes, I could see germans also getting ahold of the deutschland-class but from the sounds of it that'll be as far as they go in battleship terms.

    Overall it's just bullshit reasons they dont want to add them..
    I would be fine if they would come much later (sort of like armored cars. XD) there is no rush. But i atleast want the notion of it.


    Things like "people will use the battleship unrealistically in CQB battles blahblahblah."

    Oh.. So you mean people took SPAA trucks and did jumps over dirtmounds and flanked kingtigers with them? Sure. ATGM's vs planes? No? Not that either?

    What about WW2 vehicles vs postwar? No? What are they on about then. :V

    They should manage to create battles for larger warships in arcade style surely... Small boats is just like only having reserve planes / tanks...

    Do not overhype it please.
    The closed beta starts end of the year so calm down with your Hype.
    My opinion:
    Gaijin should have taken more time for ships and not send out a teaser 4 - 5 months before the closed beta starts.

    I wouldn't be surprised if what they did was something more along the lines of having non-premiums be generic ships that faired focused mainly on one particular specialty per type of ship, and targeting, gun slewing, speed, armor, gun range, and gun penetration were the main attributes that would define each type of ship. It would most likely be an exact copy of tanks, but on water. The premiums would most likely be famous ships and naturally have slightly better performance. Sort of like how aircraft have an ace's aircraft, navies would have the USS Missouri or something like that.

    I'd also anticipate that each ship would have some sort of AAA defense, which would be player controlled, much like it is on tanks, but there would be slightly more AA guns on the ships. I would also not be surprised if there were changes to the flight mechanics of dive bombers or torpedo bombers, which might start to become important. I would expect planes and ships to be mixed almost immediately, of course with AI controlled carriers (there'd be way to much trolling with messing up landings if they were player controlled) but the mixing of all three I would expect to be slightly farther off. Of course there would be new maps and new planes added to the game, but I believe that this can be pulled off if done correctly. The alpha of the naval testing most likely fixed a lot of the problems that they had, but if anyone pays to be a closed beta tester here, give us rundowns of what you know and post screen shots to the forums so we can see what it looks like.

    I'm keeping my options open I'm not a Tank Player but I have a Special Place in My Heart for Naval Warfare it is only second to the sky. It may be that nice change of pace or it might be a complete flop. They have teased this for a while with the Pirate Ship April Fools

    I am pretty optimistic at the moment.
