    Default New PC required

I'm looking/needing to build myself a new PC. I haven't built one in 3/4 years so a bit out of touch.

Is there someone here who would be able to spare me 20mins or so on teamspeak to discuss possible builds? I'm UK based if that matters

    Many thanks in advance

You don't have to actually buy from this site - but definitely worth using.

    https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/

It will literally ask you step by step what you want to buy, so power supply, GPU, CPU, monitor etc., it will then tell you what will and won't work together, recommend changes to make it run smoother etc... Then, if you don't mind spending that bit extra, they'll build it, stress test it, overclock it and install OS and send it to you meaning you just plug it in and go..

But like I said, you don't even have to buy from there just use their build your own PC form and see what'll work

A bit expensive there most of the time.
But yeah what he said, It's a hell of a lot cheaper building the PC yourself you can use that site for parts you want and just search them over the web say like Ebay or amazon.

Sounds like a great place to start, thanks!

I usually buy my parts on ebuyer and have access to Free OS which also keeps it down but this will get me started at least then I can maybe ask some opinions.

Being in the UK from my understanding prices for a build are more expensive, but can be done many sources for on a budget to unlimited funds. Don't cheap out if you going to do it go it right. :)
Happy to help if needed just PM me.

The funny thing is, it's ALOT cheaper to build that yourself. About 200% cheaper actually.

So how much SHOULD a console game switching over to a PC spend on a gaming pc with monitor? Since I hate buying new pcs and/or consoles it must be upgradable later on.

Needs to be 1080p also. US dollars please.

You have multiple upgrade paths you can take later.

First: Upgrade from the i5-6500 to an i5-6600k or whatever the Kabylake equivolent is later. You can Overclock with that really easily.
Second: Go from a GTX 1060 to a 1070 or even 1080, hell it will support 1080 SLI without a PSU upgrade.
Third: Add another 2x8 kit for 32GB of RAM.
Final: Full Custom Liquid Cooling Loop.

So thanks for the suggestions so far. I thought I would put some meat on the bones of my request and state what I'm currently working with and give a suggested build which can be tweaked.

    Current Build
    Intel I5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz
    8 GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
    120GB SSD
    500GB 7200 RPM

    Proposed new build
    AMD FX-8350 4GHz Socket AM3 + 8MB Cache - £150
    Gigabyte GA-990X Gaming SLI socket AM3+ 7.1 Channel ATX MOBO - £84
    Gigabyte R9 380 G1 Gaming 4GB GDDR5 graphics card - £157
    HyperX Fury Red Series 16GB 1866MHz DDR3 - £72
    Element Gaming 800W PSU - £50
    Toshiba 480GB SSD SATA III - £100
    Toshiba 2TB 7200RPM SATA Drive - £50
    Asus VP228TW 21.5" Gaming Monitor - £80

Thats roughly £750 so just under my max budget of £800

    My suggestions

    MotherBoard
    http://www.microcenter.com/product/4...el_Motherboard
    139.99

    Processor
    http://www.microcenter.com/product/4...oxed_Processor
    279.99

    Ram
    http://www.microcenter.com/product/4...top_Memory_Kit
    94.99

    POWER!!!
    http://www.microcenter.com/product/4...X_Power_Supply
    74.99

    Graphics Card
    http://www.microcenter.com/product/4...DR5_Video_Card
    279.99
Another video card choice is a step down
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...A&gclsrc=aw.ds
    159.99
(This would be a card you used for a little while until you could upgrade, I had one of these then two in sli before I upgraded again.)

This is total of 870.00 US which is a few dollars under your budget, But this is missing things such as hard drives and a monitor
I prefer Nvidia but it is a preferance, as well as Intel. But you could save yourself some money and get a 2TB Hybrid drive for around 80.00 instead of a SSD which works very well. Also you may be able to find these items cheaper. When your on a budget I always suggest making your CORE the best possible because you can always swap out hard drives and video cards down the road. Go with the higher end Processor and motherboard maybe a little cheaper video card for the time and sell it and upgrade later down the road.

Is is wiser to spend a little more now and get some of the upgrades or wait til I actually need them?

    HOLD THE PHONE!

Your 4670k can be Overclocked, granted that you have a Z97 Chipset Motherboard.

You could, chuck 8 more GB of RAM into your Mobo, throw a 1070, and a new 1TB HDD into that build, along with a cooler to OC your CPU to around 4.2 to 4.5 GHz depending on how well you won the Silicon Lotto. And come out with something At LEAST Double the speed of your proposed build.

As for your question, You would put your Operating System and HDD intensive games on the SSD, and everything else on the 1TB HDD. SSD's are faster by a LARGE margin.

Interesting, I have never over clocked before. But the over clock with limited new parts would obviously be cheaper. I'm surprised that it would be twice as fast as the proposed new build

Intel CPU's are MUCH faster in just about every respect compared to the AMD CPU's that are similar. It's not all about Clock Speed, it's also about what the CPU does with those clock cycles.

Ok so I ordered my first parts last night but my target date to have the computer built is the beginning of January. The reason is I am in a cramped apartments with newborn twins and am waiting for our house that should be available in January.

ok so I am building based on your recommendations but when and if I have a chance to upgrade the purchase I am going to. So I spent a few more $$ on a motherboard and got the ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 Professional Gaming i7 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard and Avexir Core Series 16GB (I am not a fan of red so I choose this based on reviews and color).

I put in some price points to notify me if stuff goes on sale so I will keep a running total of this build and see how close i can get to your original suggestions. So far i am +80.

You could just get a Corsair Vengeance kit that isn't Red. And, if you have the bonus money then, we can go for an OC setup. Also, I forgot to throw in a copy of Windows.

That's a more accurate price range. The ASRock Fatality board isn't too bad. I don't have any personal experience with the Fatality series myself, but my dad (AshawTalos) has another ASRock board that OC's his i7-6700k like a dream. I don't have personal experience with Avexir RAM, so I'm not sure how well it will work. But, Other people apparently have good reviews. I chose Kingston for the "upgraded" build, as Kingston is a good brand, it's what I have in my PC right now, Although the actual sub-brand of it, Kingston HyperX Predator does not seem to show up on PCP.

But, with that build you can play just about anything at 1080p Ultra at either 60 FPS (Newer titles) or 144 FPS (Older titles, or intense titles) You will want to Overclock the i5-6600k though. I'd start with looking for a factory OC type function in the BIOS for the Motherboard. That's how I started.

This is going to drive me batshit crazy. I am learning just enough to be dangerous and I don't know enough to be good at it hahaha.

So as I stated my dislike for red I didn't know you get the kingston in different colors and the asrock frailty board is dun dun dunnnnnn RED. So I scoured google for mother board reviews, I think I read like 13 different motherboard reviews and with the color pallet I am aiming for I went with a slightly cheaper but higher reviewed mother board than the frailty pro gaming i7 board. Its am MIS Krait gaming board. So with the MSI MB and the Avexir ram I am +20 ooff the build.

I did notice I will also have to add a card for bluetooth.
