PC Moniter Help

So my computer apparently has an HDMI port that i didn't know it had. I'm trying to use that HDMI port for my second monitor. But every time I try to detect a new monitor, my computer says that it cant detect a new display. Does this mean that It's not plugged in? Or is my computer just being stupid?
