Default Help Making Decision For Armed Forces.

I've made the decision to join the armed forces awhile ago. What are some questions I should ask myself and my recruiter?

The decision I've narrowed down to Marines or Navy. Select in poll which I should join, then make a post for why I should choose X over Y.

I took the short pretest a month ago and scored a 45. However, I was not prepared and didn't know about it. I've since studied every day and will prob score 50-60 now. Probably lol.

I am medically fit, and Height and weight is in check as well.

Would also like some personal experience posts, would help alot.

I would figure out what you want to do in the armed forces then figure out which one suits you better.

Both offer different paths and jobs what I would do is to go to both recruiters and talk to them so you can ask about jobs , stations, what to do to prepare for in basic training and how what you do in either can translate into real world experience.

It being from a Navy family I tend to lean that way even if I went army lol.

You can try putting a thread in the members only section of the forums as well.

I believe that one is viewed more by Sgts/older members, and a lot of them have been in the military I think.

Navy all the way. The navy basically does everything outside of the fight. Marines are in the real action, in the real conflict, risking their life everyday fully.

If you have questions about the Marines ask away. As others would suggest, decide what you want to do in the service. Then go for the branch that is better known for that field. I loved every minute of my time in the Marines but if you compare the IT to the airforces spending/training, there is no comparison.

Marines was MOS based, eight year obligated and varying active my IT was five years plus extensions. So if you do eight, no need for reserve either inactive or active

No no no no no no.

The AOD forums should not be the vehicle that determines where and how you spend the next 3-5 years of your life. Do not leave it up to popular opinion, and don't eliminate other options just based on hearsay.

Do your research. Find the one that makes the most sense for your life and your career goals.

Good call here. I can appreciate the inquiry - we've got a ridiculous amount of members who are prior service or current service members. This is no decision that you should leave up to a poll. So lets close that poll. However, if you'd like to talk to any of the members currently and get their take, feel free. But the poll idea for choosing where to go is a bad one.

We're a big family here, so you'll find no shortage of assistance. We just won't help you choose the next 4-20 years of your life ;)
