Default Help me make a choice.

I have two options within my price range. The oculous rift and touch controllers is my first option. The second is to buy a battery pack for my laptop alongside a pair of nice headphone for either gaming or daily use. Haven't decided which yet. This would leave me some money at my disposal where as the rift would drain me.

Tldr: rift + touch controllers OR headphones/microphone + batterypack for my laptop.

What games are you planning to play with Oculus Rift?

I use mine for Sim Racing and it is fantastic but I bought Oculus Rift without touch controllers cause I don't need them, which saved me $200.

Have no idea the type of games that I would play. Racing sims sound cool, I honestly wouldn't even mind having it to watch movies! I would love to play any number of steam games that support VR, one that sounds really cool is tabletop simulator with vr, that would be pretty cool and I already own it.

Well in this case you have to think if you really going to use VR often and does it make sense to use it for the games you are going to play because not all games are well optimized yet for VR.

So, with that said I'd recommend to get good Headphones and Mic instead.
I have these DJ Headphones: https://www.amazon.com/Philips-A5Pro...=philips+a5pro
Audio Interface that replaces my onboard soundcard: https://www.amazon.com/Steinberg-UR2...nberg+ur22mkii
Condenser Microphone with stand and pop filter: https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Profes...=neewer+nw-700

I'd recommend to get Audio Interface because it's so much better than any onboard soundcard. You get so much more quality sound out of that. You could also get Audio Mixer with built in audio interface https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-Xen...ds=audio+mixer and get even more quality out of your system.
With those headphones and that audio setup you are golden. There is no so called "Gaming Headsets" that can match the quality of that setup. Those headphones are like day and night when I switched from gaming headsets. The sound is so crystal clear and it sounds like it was meant to be and you can always adjust to your liking because those headphones have flat equalizer. And best part about those headphones is that they are full metal build and genuine leather - no plastic parts that can break if you drop them and they fold really nicely and have detachable cable that can be attached on either side of headphones.

Alright alright, I'm liking this a lot. question regarding this grouping of items: would that mic go through the audio interface? Will this be a durable setup for gaming and music, I need it to last me years.

Next up on my list, I am hoping to pick up a nice battery pack for laptop, the razer one that would match my laptop is coming up soon, or I can pick up this guy:

    https://www.amazon.com/ChargeTech-PP...052214&sr=8-11

    or

    https://www.amazon.com/Portable-RAVP...052214&sr=8-10

That is the main reason why I got that audio interface in the first place: to connect a quality mic through an XLR cable so I can record quality audio.
Yes, it will last for years and it is durable. The audio interface is fully made of metal (has only plastic knobs and buttons) and from what I know so far they last for years. My friend has one 7 year old audio interface and it still works really, really good today.
Headphones should last for years too because:
    A) Full Metal construction (no plastic).
    B) Leather cushions and padding.
    C) Quality product and great warranty.

As for mic, it's cheap but works well. You can always get a better mic but this one works pretty good even though it's so cheap.
Here is an example of voice quality in the video that I just made last week:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B34...haVkljV2M/view

As for battery, go with the one that has larger power bank and power output.

Alrighty, I was looking around the amazon links and found the mic cable was lacking and xlr to xlr cable. Put that onto my list. Does this spreadsheet look accurate to you? (my apologies fo quick/shit formatting) I am just looking to make sure everything is compatible.

Yes, the spreadsheet looks ok. Yes, that mic does not come with XLR to XLR cable in the package. So, you need to buy cable separately. For best performance I would recommend Yorkville XLR cables but any should be alright.
Also, you don't have to pick exactly same Audio Interface. I picked this one specifically because it has highest bit rate out of all in this price range and has pretty good amps for the price. It has it's pros and cons compared to other in the same price range but overall it has good driver support and works well. Focusrite has better software included in the package but after I did some research I was not sure about driver support as I've seen some people complaining about drivers in Windows 10. So, at first I wanted to get Focusrite but that driver issue turned me off.
PreSonus and Behringer are also good. I'm planning on getting Behringer Audio Mixer to use it with my Steinberg Audio Interface but I haven't decided yet on that - will have to talk to my friend to help me picking one that would best suite my needs, he is pretty good in audio equipment and is also a professional.

Just to point out if you get one of those audio interfaces. You can get also a software based equalizer that can help fine tune sound for any output device you connect (headphones, speakers, midi ...). I use Equalizer APO 1.1.1. It's a free app and works really good. At this point you can literally forget about your onboard soundcard and software that comes with motherboard and can even completely turn it off in BIOS, which I did :-)
Ofcourse having a hardware based equalizer would do a better job.

Here is a list of audio interfaces worth looking at with a price range up to $150:
    https://www.amazon.com/PreSonus-Audi...udio+interface
    https://www.amazon.com/Focusrite-2i2...udio+interface
    https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UMC...udio+interface
    https://www.amazon.com/Steinberg-UR2...+usb+interface

My choice was between Steinberg, Focusrite and PreSonus but mostly was leaning on Steinberg and Focurite and after researching both and since my friend had both but earlier models I decided to go with Steinberg.

If you have higher budget and needs then you can go for something more expensive but these are very good for daily use and do some stuff like listening to the music, record voice, create music (Focusrite has Ableton software licence included).

Yup. And when I'm racing I'm about 1 meter away from it. Was always wondering if you can hear me loud and clear.

If you want to get into VR, I wouldn't recommend the Occulus Rift. I highly recommend getting the HTC Vive as it's a much better system.

The only difference between them are sensors and touch controllers. HTC Vive has better sensors and touch controllers but image quality is the same. They have same specs. Oculus Rift is lighter on the head though. Also, it depends what type of games you are going to play in VR. I got Oculus Rift because I'm using VR only for Sim Racing. Thus, I don't need touch controllers and need only the headset. Oculus Rift can be bought without touch controllers as low as $499.99 on Amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Rift-V...ds=oculus+rift, while HTC Vive costs almost double the amount. So, for me it did not make sense to pay $800 and waste $300 just for those extra features that HTC Vive has that I'll never gonna use. With that said, if you put HTC Vive and Oculus Rift just the headset side by side, I'll take Oculus Rift any day any time - it's just much lighter on the head but image quality are exactly the same since they both have same specs.

Here are some specs to compare between Rift and Vive.
You can see that Rift is 470 grams, while Vive is 555 grams WITHOUT cables, so with cables it is even heavier, and if you attach headphones and mic it is EVEN more heavy, while Rift has all that already built in and weighs only 470 grams (plus you can remove headphones if you want).

    https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/...t-vs-htc-vive/

As you can see that the screens are pretty much the same. If you do some research on OLED vs AMOLED you won't find any significant differences there. In some cases AMOLED will be better than OLED and vise versa. All in all, the image you will get is exact same quality in both headsets. Moreover, Vive looks just so bulky compared to Rift. IMHO, Rift is more comfortable on the head and is a better deal and better bang for a buck.

The problem is, the Rift is owned by Facebook, and that's not ok. Eventually, it's going to be marketed as a Social Media device and instead of playing games on it, you'll only be able to browse Facebook.

The HTC Vive is built for Gaming. It might be heavier, and more expensive, but VR is going into it's 2nd generation soon and with that will be cheaper HTC Vives and OR's. But, I'd much rather support a company that is dedicated to the true gaming audience than a company that has people who play Farmville for maybe 2 hours a week.

It's not a problem. Just because something is owned and funded by someone doesn't change what it is. While it's owned by Facebook, Oculus VR is a separate division in Facebook.

When second generation VR comes in then I'll see what both have to offer for the money. Meanwhile, Oculus Rift is a better offer for the money. It's like any device or component in a PC. If AMD Vega will offer better value for the money then I'll buy AMD Vega, if NVIDIA will keep it's throne of performance then I'll buy GTX 1080 Ti.
