Default Intel i5 vs i7 CPU

Starting a new build with a Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7 MoBo. Been using AMD CPU's. I was wondering if anyone has some advice on what CPU would best fit my needs for around $200-$300. I have been researching i5 7700K and 8600K. Play BF1 and want to be able to run smooth and and not get shot because my CPU is crap. Any advice appreciated.

Z370 motherboards are not compatible with Kaby Lake processors (7700k). So you'll be forced to get the 8600k processor. If you're looking for a CPU that's 200-300 dollars, I'd recommend getting a Z270 motherboard, then getting a i7 7700k processor (currently 289.00 USD on newegg).

Personally I would go with an 8th generation.

Would highly recommend the cpu I just linked two of my friends bought them and they haven't had any issues and there is a pretty good performence difference between 8th gen and 7th gen.

Do you think an air cooler will be adequate for gaming?

    i5 8600k would be a better choice of i7 7700k.

i5 8600k has extra 2 cores, which may be beneficial in the nearest future for some games. Single Core performance between 8600k and 7700k is on par but multicore performance is better for i5 8600k. So, save your money and get i5 8600k. If you want Hyperthreading and don't mind spending extra $100 then get i7 8700k.

It will be ok for light OC but IMHO, if you want a good OC and want to stay on air cooler then you need to buy a top air cooler, which will cost pretty much as an AIO cooler. So, I'd say why bother with air cooling if you can get AIO and get stable temperatures while OC. AIO will be more stable and less influenced by ambient temperatures, while Air Cooler will also heavily depend on ambient temps.

I have a i5 8700 and my i7 7700k runs just a little better with more programs open but gets hotter the 8 gen is a great cpu for the price but your going to need the motherboard to match it

I have a i5 8400 and my i7 7700k runs better with more programs open but gets hotter. The 8 gen is a great cpu better than the 7 gen of course. I love my i7 7700k for some reason and am not ready to move on to the 8 gens.

I would get an 8700K and overclock it to 5.0, that will make BF1 smooth as glass. I would also go with a AIO cooler, my current build is the first time using one and it performs very well. Whatever you decide please share your decision, I love a good build story.

I have the Gigabyte Z370 Aorus. Been using A88X-Pro with AMD A10-7890K R7 at 4ghz. Runs at 100% and doesn't handle BF4 well. I am using a GeForce 1060 3gb GPU. Looking forward to joining the Intel family.

I have a Corsair H80i cooler on the old build. Was thinking on using it on the new build. Do you think that will keep a i3 8th gen 8350K cool enough?

Sure and even do some overclocking.

For an i5 air cooling should be relatively fine (just not the ones that come the the cpu) for an i7 I would go liquid.

There is no temperature difference over going liquid. This has been busted in the past by so many people. A $60 air cooler will perform the same as a $100 AIO. The only benefit from AIO vs air coolers is less noise if you replace the fans and less dust in the case. A custom liquid cooling loop would be better than air and AIOs, but I doubt someone who needs help deciding on something is going to go and make a custom loop (and spend the $350 minimum to do it).

Also, read your PM's. I've sent you something twice now.

OP, if you value time saved out of game, get at least an i5. I would not personally buy an i3 for the price difference, but I multitask a lot.
