So far I’ve been hearing lots of good things about this new movie, but if I remember correctly everyone said the same thing about Ep 7 when that first came out. As soon as the story settled with everyone and everybody was able to soak it all in, it fell fast and hard.

I don’t know, I’m seeing it Thursday in Dolby and I’ll let you guys know what I think of it. Also, I’m going to spoil the fuck out of it because I’m an asshole like that. :)

It's good in the sense that it's got a lot of world building, an original story, and it's (at least for the most part) a fun movie.

The characters, however, fall extremely flat and are very forgettable.

I like the movie, but I also see it as more of an "about the event" type of movie rather than an "about these characters" type of movie. So I see it more along the lines of Dunkirk (though not as well done) than, say, Saving Private Ryan. If that makes sense. (And yes, I know they were about different situations and all, just a comparison)

It's 10x the star wars movie the force awakens was, but lets be honest here Disney loves sacrificing good star wars lore for the sake of making mindless star wars movies with giant plot holes and no actually thought. I hope the last jedi is good, but I really doubt it.
