    Canada2 Windows 10 forcing creators update (1709)

Hey all, thought I would check here to see if anyone else has the same issue. Recently windows has been forcing me to download/install the creators update 1709. I have reverted back to my previous version about 6 times since the weekend, now I just hope to catch it everytime I turn my pc on and disable the update service. Version 1709 seems to break my games, ive tested most of my games and they all have the same problem. Everything seems to have very terrible performance with horrible textures as if I didnt have a video card or something. Ive tried different drivers for my video card and nothing works, my in game screen also has a slight shaking to it around the outside of the screen. Now everything I find on the web about blocking this update does not work, I have to manually go in my services tab in my admin tools area and disable the service every day. It is very annoying to keep doing this and I wonder if any of you had this problem and what you may have done to fix it or block it for good.

my system is in my sig ;)

Been using 1709 for quite some time now and have 0 issues or whatsoever. I'm always keeping system up to date and never had any issues.

I hear a lot of people experiencing all kinds of issues after each Windows 10 Creator update.
I never had any problems with any of the updates. And I came to conclusion that perhaps there are a few things that might be causing this issue.

Nr.1: Windows Fast Startup. Disabling it resolves a lot of issues. You can disable it by navigating to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings and removing check-mark from "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".
Nr.2: Power Options - set to High Performance to let the CPU run on full capacity at all times rather than let it throttle. Helps with performance in games and prevents CPU from throttling.
Nr.3: General things to do after you install a fresh copy of Windows (in essence remove all the Telemetry Garbage that Microsoft forces by default):

First, do not login to your computer with Microsoft Account. If you already did then disable Microsoft Account and create a Local Account.

    Type "Privacy" in Search Windows.
    Click Privacy Settings.
In General Tab set everything to Off.
Click on Manage my Microsoft advertising and other personalization info and set everything to Off. (A browser will open up).
In Location Tab, set everything to Off unless you are using one of those features.
In Camera Tab set everything to Off.
In Account Info set everything to Off.
In Contacts set everything to Off.
    Calendar leave On.
In Message Tab set everything to Off.
In Radios set everything to Off.
In Other Devices set everything to Off.
Feedback & diagnostics set to Never for "Windows should ask for my feedback" and set Diagnostic and usage data to Basic.
In Background apps set those apps that you don't use to Off.

Open Microsoft Edge and click on three dots on the top right corner and then click on Settings.
Click on View Advanced Settings and set everything to Off except "Block Popo-Ups" and "Use Adobe Flash Player".

Press on your keyboard 'Windows + R' and type gpedit.msc and hit enter.
In Local Group Policy Editor navigate to Computer Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> Windows Components --> One Drive
On the right side double click on 'Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage' and set it to Enable and Apply. Do not close Local Group Policy Editor.
In Local Group Policy Editor navigate to Computer Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> All Settings and find 'Allow Telemetry' on the right side.
Double click on 'Allow Telemetry' and set it to Disabled and Apply.
Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Search.
Locate the “Allow Cortana” setting in the right pane and double-click it.
Set the Allow Cortana option to “Disabled” and then click “OK”.

Press on your keyboard 'Windows + R' and type regedit and hit enter.
In the Registry Editor navigate to Computer --> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Microsoft --> Windows --> CurrentVersion --> Policies --> DataCollection
Then on the right side double click 'AllowTelemetry' and change value to 0 and then Ok to save.

In 'Search Windows' type command and right click on 'Command Prompt' and then 'Run As Administrator'.
    Go to root. (cd ..)
    Run the following commands:
    SC DELETE DIAGTRACK
    SC DELETE DMWAPPUSHSERVICE
    ECHO "" > C:\PROGRAMDATA\MICROSOFT\DIAGNOSIS\ETLLOGS\AUTOLOG GER\AUTOLOGGER-DIAGTRACK-LISTENER.ETL

    In 'Search Windows' type Cortana
    Set everything to Off.
Under 'Manage what Cortana knows about me in the cloud' clear all history if you were logged in with your Microsoft Account. Once again, Disable Microsoft Account if you are still logged in with it.

For better performance and to prevent memory leak in Windows disable NDU
    Open regedit
    Go to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\N du
Modify "Start" Value to 4 to disable it.

    ========================

Remove garbage applications by Microsoft - open PowerShell and run as administrator then perform these commands to remove tools that most likely you won't ever use:

Uninstall Phone and Uninstall Phone Companion
    get-appxpackage *phone* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall Calendar and Mail apps
    get-appxpackage *communicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall People
    get-appxpackage *people* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall Alarms & Clock
    get-appxpackage *alarms* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall Camera
    get-appxpackage *camera* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall Maps
    get-appxpackage *maps* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall Voice Recorder
    get-appxpackage *soundrecorder* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall Microsoft Solitaire Collection
    get-appxpackage *solitaire* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall 3D Builder
    get-appxpackage *3dbuilder* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall OneNote
    get-appxpackage *onenote* | remove-appxpackage

    Uninstall XBox
    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxApp | Remove-AppxPackage
    Get-AppxPackage –AllUsers
    Remove-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxApp_22.23.18005.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

    ============================
Then go to Services and disable all Xbox services, which are causing a lot of issues for many games.

Oh wow lots to go through here, I appreciate this ZED. I am currently at work and I will defiantly try all this when I get home tonight. I would love to let my pc update whenever but they shouldn’t make it so hard to get running lol.

I’ll let you know how it goes! Thanks again.

I'm running 1709 without issue. Drivers are fairly current from my reimage this past summer with the exception of my video drivers. For those, I have the Nvidia installer perform a clean install each time.

Key parts in my build are below:
    CPU: Intel Core i7 7820X
    Mobo: ASUS Prime X299 A
    RAM: 16GB DDR4-3000 Corsair
    Gfx: EVGA GeForce 1080 GTX
    SSD: Samsung EVO 960 M.2

Ok so I just got done actually doing a clean install of the 1709 update, I did everything you said and I still have this issue. I actually narrowed it down to my ingame resolution that I have always used..... For some reason it wont work properly. I always use 1080p, always have.. now when I have it set to fullscreen 1080p everything is blurry and outside edges are a bit shaky. When I lower the resolution or switch to borderless it seems to be fine.. I have no idea what this could be, I changed nothing but the windows version.

What monitor you've got and how it is connected?

Well it’s an Asus vp278 27”, seems to be only bf1 now. I just tried ghost recon wild lands, r6 siege, bf4 was even ok. I tried repairing my bf1 install and that doesn’t work. I found a way to make it ok, by changing the refresh rate in the prosave profile folder to 60 but I can’t change any settings in game after or it goes back to being all bugged out

How did you install NVIDIA drivers and did you also install drivers for the monitor?

Well my nvidia drivers were a fresh install this time around since I did the clean windows install. I honestly don’t think I ever installed drivers for a monitor. The problem seems to only be for battlefield one now

Do you run the game in DX11 or DX12?

I also find that XBox trash is messing the BF. So, I did disable it a long time ago.

There's a lot of reports of 1709 absolutely killing performance for gaming. From a 185 page thread on Nvidia's forums of people desperately trying to fix their issues (very many troubleshooting steps in said thread) to multiple posts on Reddit and all sorts of other stuff. Obviously, there's a lot of factors that play into performance. Drivers, Windows optimizations, specific setups, hardware, registry settings, etc.

Here is a .bat file script you can run to disable all of the Xbox stuff (much quicker than manually doing everything). You may see a boost in performance after doing this. It completely disables GameDVR and all of the other "gaming" features Windows introduced. Literally copy and paste the code into a notepad file, save as .bat and double click it to run it.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/c...pdate/doj2t5u/

This guide is specific to CSGO, but you may find use of it: https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffen...es_stuttering/

Another thing that a lot of people have reported as a fix is the following:

Find the exe's for the games in question, right click>properties>compatibility>disable fullscreen optimizations (tick the box). Based on what you've described. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this (disabling fullscreen optimization) will probably fix your issue.

Try that and see how it goes.

Also, here's how to disable Windows from updating to the Creator builds:

You could also try this. I made this video a year ago and it helped me and many others to run Battlefield much smoother. It doesn't necessarily increase FPS but it helps to prevent huge FPS drops.

Have you tried disabling the full screen optimizations I detailed above?
